1. A cone is made by cutting off a sector as shown below from a circle and gluing the straight
edges of the sector. The cone formed has a slant height 14cm and circular base of perimeter

2. A right conical frustum of base radius 7cm and top radius 3.5cm, and height of 6cm is
stuck onto cylinder of base radius 7cm and height 5cm which is further attached to a
hemisphere to form a closed solid as shown below

3. The ends of the roof of a workshop are segment of a circle of radius 10m. The roof is 20m
long The angle of the Centre is 1200 as shown in the figure below.

(ii) The area of the curve surface of the roof. (2marks)

(b) What would be cost to the nearest shilling of covering the two ends and the
curved surface with galvanized iron sheet costing sh.80 per square meter.

5. A closed cuboid has same volume as a closed cylindrical container with radius 35cm and
height 20cm. If the cuboid has length 70cm and width22cm.

(a) Calculate the height of the cuboid (3marks)

(b) The ratios of the surface areas of the two solids (5marks)

(c) If the two are made of the same material and the material for making the
cylindrical solid cost, ksh. 80, what is the cost of the material used to make
the cuboid? (2marks)

24cm and the top measuring 6 cm by 8cm. The slant edges are each 26cm long.

Determine:

c) Density in g/cm3 if the solid has a mass of 7.488kg (3marks)

9. The figure below is a model representing a rocket capsule. The model whose total height
is 15cm is made up of a conical top; a hemispherical bottom and the middle part is cylindrical.
The radius of the base of the cone and that of the hemisphere are each 3cm. The height of the
cylindrical part is 8cm.

b) The actual rocket has a total height of 6 meters. The outside of the actual rocket
capsule is to be painted. Calculate the amount of paint required if an area of 20m2

(b) If the density of the material used to make the solid is 1.3g/cm3, calculate its

16. A solid metallic ground peg consists of a conical part whose perpendicular height is 6cm
and a cylindrical part of height 15cm. The conical part and the cylindrical parts have a
common radius of 2cm. This is as shown in the figure below.

a) Calculate the volume of the peg (take π=3.142) (4marks)

b) Find the total curved surface area of the peg. (3marks)

c) If the peg is melted down and recast into a hemispherical solid, determine the radius
of the hemispheres to 3 s.f.
