CONFERENCE ON VISION 2030 : Achieving 500 GW Green Energy Capacity
Its mission 500 GW for the green energy sector by 2030 as India seeks to secure 50 % of its energy needs from
this sunrise industry to reduce carbon emissions and ensure economic self-sufficiency.
We have already come a long way, with India now ranking among the top 5 in both solar and wind energy
capacity. The country already boasts of 180 GW of green energy capacity, that apart from solar and wind power
also includes, green hydrogen, bio-energy and hydel power.
To add 50 GW of green energy capacity every year through a series of concerted actions.
Demand is sought to be shored up mandating purchases and storage capacity of renewable energy by
power companies
The roof top solar sector is getting a major boost both in urban and rural areas from the government to
promote decentralisation of power generation and consumption.
A huge number of solar parks are being developed to drive scale in the industry.
A Green corridor is being created to help distribute clean power from surplus to deficit areas.
Mechanisms are being developed to rationalise interstate power tariffs
An open access mechanism is coming online wherein households and industrial establishments are free
to seek green energy from the open market at pre-agreed rates.

Hybrid energy storage and banking to account for the intermittent nature of green energy supply and
effective integration to the grid.
Production linked incentives, an approved list of manufacturers and models, import duties on Chinese
imports are all helping to boost domestic industry in a big manner.
The China+1 strategy has also seen the export market for Indian green energy products and
technologies grow in a good manner.
Challenges along the way:
Supply chain management is an issue due to the lack of upstream raw materials and as yet nascent R&D
capabilities in other areas. Demand and supply being chicken and egg, economies of scale and scope will
only gradually evolve
India needs about USD 250 billion in investments to reach the 500 GW green energy target by 2030. But
green finance is not easily available and if it is, at a significant premium to global lending rates
The power transmission infrastructure is in need of upgradation. Transmission and distribution losses
are over 15 % in India vis-à-vis 5 % in the US and China
Imports continue despite import duties due to a lack of domestic capacity and also because of dumping
from China.
Logistics issues plague the wind energy, especially the transportation and storage of large components.
There is a pressing shortage of quality manpower even as technology changes rapidly. The green energy
sector needs 30,000 professionals each year, against which the supply is only 10,000.
Despite good intentions, policy is often inconsistent and can vary from state to state, not to mention
bureaucratic challenges with land acquisition etc.
To address these issues, as part of the 2nd edition of India Green Energy Expo, A one - day power-packed
conference on India’s mission to achieve 500GW capacity from Green Energy and reduce the carbon emissions
was held on 3rd June 2024.
The conference was focused on Government policies and Its impact, Technological advancements, Suppy chain
management, Hybrid technologies, Areas to address and the way forward
Prominent speakers from Bescom, KREDL, CPRI, SEDBI, Warree, Emmvee, Adani Solar, Microtek and other
leading players will be sharing dais to exchange ideas on the sector.
A one - day power-packed conference on India’s mission to achieve 500GW capacity from Green Energy and
reduce the carbon emissions with focus on Government policies and Its impact, Technological advancements,
Suppy chain management, Hybrid technologies, Areas to address and the way forward.
Some of the key topics covered in the conference include Gameplan to achieve vision 2030, Optimizing the
supply chain, Securing sustainable finance for the green energy sector, Fire side chat with an important policy
maker, How do we address the manpower challenge, etc.
