CHECKLIST FOR PRESENTATION


of
Topic, Thesis Statement, Topic Outline, Sources and References

This checklist ensures that you create concise, visually appealing, and well-structured presenta8ons
while building your confidence in public speaking.

Slide 1: Cover Page


Have you added:
Group members’ full names?
Title of the essay topic?
A visually appealing image or design related to the topic?

Slide 2: Scope of Research


Have you:
Prepared a brief men8on of personal interest in the topic (e.g., why it maFers to the group)?
(“This topic is significant because it addresses [reason], which has real-world implica8ons in
[specific area].”
Included “keywords or a short phrase” explaining the relevance or importance of the topic?

Slide 3: Thesis Statement


Have you:
Included the thesis statement prominently in bold text.
§ Student Talk Example: “Our thesis statement is: [thesis]. This statement captures our argument
and guides our essay.”

Slide 4: Topic Outline


Have you:
Displayed a clear, concise outline with correct headings and subheadings
(in I-II-III / A-B / 1-2 order)?
Ensured the outline highlights the logical flow of the essay?
Ensured correct punctua8on and wording / grammar?
§ Op8onal: Add an image or icon related to the outline’s main points.
§ Student Talk Example: “Our essay begins by discussing [Point I], followed by [Point II], and
concludes with [Point III]. This ensures a thorough explora8on of our thesis.”

Slides 5–7: Source InformaMon (1 Slide Per Source)


For each source: Have you:
WriFen the code for that source on top of the slide? (the outline division it corresponds to, i.e.
IA1, IA2, IB1, IB2 etc.)
WriFen the student’s name responsible for that part?
Displayed the APA-formaFed reference?
Included the complete topic outline with the specific sec8on you’re discussing clearly
highlighted?

Provided a brief annota8on summarizing the source’s purpose, credibility, and relevance to the
essay (no sentences but key words) for one of your sources? Each person must have an
annota8on for one of their sources.
Highlighted any data or findings directly related to the thesis?
Included a relevant image (the ar8cle’s first page and infographic as well as other images
related to the topic)?
§ Student Talk Example: “This source by [Author] examines [key findings]. It’s valuable because it
provides data suppor8ng [specific part of the thesis].”

Slide 8: Relevance to Synthesis Essay (Conclusion)


Summarize how the chosen sources and outline show readiness to write the essay.
Highlight the group’s preparedness and confidence.
§ Student Talk Example: “By synthesizing these sources, we’ll effec8vely argue [key point]. Our
thesis, outline, and research ensure we’re ready to begin wri8ng.”

AddiMonal PresentaMon Tips

1. Time Management
S8ck to a 2–3 minute presenta8on per group.
Rehearse to avoid exceeding the 8me limit.

2. Clarity and Engagement


Avoid reading directly from slides—use slides as visual aids, not scripts.
Maintain “eye contact” and speak clearly. (Do not read your speech from your phone or a
paper)

3. Using AI for PracMce


If struggling with fluency, you can write your part using AI tools and memorize it beforehand.

4. ArMculaMon
Prac8ce pausing and enuncia8ng key points to sound confident.

5. Minimal Text on Slides


Use bullet points, keywords, or short phrases to keep slides uncluFered.

6. Visuals and Design


Incorporate minimal but relevant visuals or icons to maintain audience aFen8on.
Avoid overloading slides with graphics or text.
