SECTION-A (1X4=4M)
1. There are four objects of equal mass at a distance of 4m, 8m 6m and 10m
from a pole. Which object will have maximum force of attraction with the
pole?
1) The object which is 4 m away from the pole
2) The object which is 8 m away from the pole
3) The object which is 6 m away from the pole
4) The object which is 10 m away from the pole
2. Unit of universal gravitational constant is:
1) Nm2kg2 2) Nm2/kg2 3) N m kg2 4) N/m2 kg2
3. Which one of the following principles tells us that buoyant force acting on an
object is equal to weight of the fluid displaced by that object?
1) Kepler’s principle 2) Archimedes’ principle
3) Newton's law 4) Pascal's law
4. Assertion(A): A man is sitting in a boat which floats on a pond. If the man
drinks some water from the pond, the level of water in the pond
will decrease.
Reason(R): The weight of the liquid displaced by the body is greater than
the weight of the body.
1) Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of
assertion.
2) Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of
assertion.
3) Assertion is true but reason is false.
4) Both Assertion and Reason are false.

SECTION-B (2X2=4M)
5. If the small and big stones are dropped from the roof of a house
simultaneously, they will reach the ground at the same time. Why?
6. What is up thrust? State two factors on which the magnitude of buoyant force
acting on an object immersed in liquid depends. When a partially immersed
body is pressed down a little, what will happen to the up thrust?
SECTION-C (1X3=3M)
7. Two bodies of masses 3 kg and 12 kg are placed at a distance 12 m. A third
body of mass 0.5 kg is to be placed at such a point that the force acting on
this body is zero. Find the position of that point.
SECTION-D (1X5=5M)
8. From a cliff of 49 m high, a man drops a stone. One second later, he throws
another stone. They both hit the ground at the same time. Find out the speed
with which he threw the second stone.
SECTION-E (1X4=4M)
9. UNIVERSAL LAW OF GRAVITATION:
Every object in the universe attracts every other object with a force which is
proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square
of the distance between them. The force is along the line joining the centers of two
objects.
Let two objects A and B of masses M and m lie at a distance d from each other as
shown in figure. Let the force of attraction between two objects be F. According to
NARAYANA GROUP OF SCHOOLS 2
CBSE-IX ASSESSMENT TEST PHYSICS
the universal law of gravitation, the force between two objects is directly
proportional to the product of their masses. That is,
F∝M × m -----------(1)
And the force between two objects is inversely proportional to the square of the
distance between them, that is,
F ∝ 1/d2---------------(2)
Combining Eqs. (1) and (2),
we get F ∝ M x m/ d2 --------------(3)
or
F = G (M x m)/d2 ------------(4)
where G is the constant of proportionality and is called the universal gravitation
constant.
By multiplying crosswise, Eq. (4) gives
F= G (M × m)/ d2
or
G = F x d2 /M x m -----------(5)
The SI unit of G can be obtained by substituting the units of force, distance and
mass in Eq. (5) as N m2 kg–2.
a) Write the SI units of G? (1M)
b) When mass of one body is doubled then what would be the value of force
of gravitation? (1M)
c) What is universal gravitational constant? What is its SI unit? (2M)
(or)
Two objects of masses 10kg and 20kg separated by distance 10m. What
is gravitational force between them? (2M)
