ABSTRACT

A electric panel is generally used for purpose of controlling the

operation of motors and delivers the supply generated from the
substation. A electric panel is used in various applications like
hospitals, apartments, small and large scale factories, substations,
etc..,. A electric panel comprising of many types like LV panel, MV
panel, and HV panel. In that a LV panel has types like PCC, MCC
and PMCC panels. In PMCC panel the elements are classified into
classes types based on their cost and necessity usage.

INTRODUCTION

A Power cum Motor Control Center (PMCC) panel plays a major role
in industrial settings, designed to distribute electrical power and
control motors efficiently. It typically consists of incoming and
outgoing sections(feeders), with various protective devices like
circuit breakers, relays, and contactors for managing power
distribution and motor operations. PMCC panels ensure safe and
reliable operation of electrical systems, offering centralized control
and monitoring capabilities for industrial processes.
The PMCC panel typically houses incoming and outgoing power
feeders, motor starters, circuit breakers, relays, meters, and other
control devices.

4
OBJECTIVE

The main objective of a PMCC panel is to gain the knowledge on

making of electrical panel i.e..,. PMCC panel in which elements are
mounted inside of a panel which is used for controlling, protection
for loads and also mounted on outside of panel. By using the
AutoCAD software we can design any panel board circuit which is
suitable to particular application networks. The circuit diagram will
shows the connection of all electrical elements which are used in
the panel board.

DESCRIPTION ABOUT PMCC PANEL

PMCC panel :
A PMCC panel is a type of electrical panel which is used for
controlling of motors and delivers the power to various loads and
motors.
It typically consists of compartments for power distribution
components such as circuit breakers, fuses, and switches, as well
as motor control components like contactors, starters, and
overload relays.

6
In a PMCC panel the elements which are present in the inside and
outside elements are classified into 3 types of classes in which
they are Class A, class B, class C.

The elements in the classes are

Class A Class B Class C

7
Class ‘A’ :
1. Air circuit breaker :
Air Circuit Breaker (ACB) is an electrical device used to
provide Overcurrent and short-circuit protection for electric
circuits over 800 Amps to 10K Amps.

2. Molded case circuit breaker :

A MCCB is a circuit breaker which is used for protection of
Power lines from the short circuit, overload and phase losses
condition. It can protect the devices or lines upto ratings of
1K amps to 5K amps .

8
3. Motor protection circuit breaker :
A MPCB is a circuit breaker which is used for protection of
motors against the overload and short circuit current. It is
capable to upon 1000A ratings loads.

Class ‘B’ :
1. Meters :
Meters are classified into 2 types ;
• Analog meters(ammeters, voltmeters, power factor meters,
etc..,.)
• Digital meters(MFM).

9
2. Selector switch :
It is a type of electrical switch in which we can change the
position of switching method.
It is of two types ;
• Ammeter selector switch
• Voltmeter selector switch

Ammeter selector switch (ASS) : It consists of positions like

R,Y,B in it so that we can switch to any line to find out the
current flowing in the line.

Voltmeter selector switch (VSS) : It consists of phase to phase

voltage(RY, YB, BR) indication and phase to neutral(RN, YN,
BN) indication on it so that we can change the position for
which a operator to want to run .

3. Isolation transformer :
Isolation transformer is used for protection of equipment and
for human beings . A isolation transformer can separated the

10
circuit whenever faults are occurred in it so that the fault can
supply towards the neutral which is connected at primary side
of transformer .

4. Core balanced current transformer :

A CBCT is a current transformer in which it detects the earth
fault currents and it gives sense to the ELR so that it can
protect the earth faults current flowing over to equipment.

5. Current transformer :
A CT is a type of instrumental transformer which can
measures the current flowing through the secondary winding.
It measures the high current and conversion of high primary
currents proportional to the secondary current. A CT is used
in the substations.

11
6. Earth leakage relay :
A ELR is a device which is used for the sensing of earth fault
currents flowing through the CBCT. It has time setting and
current setting time in it . So that a fault can be removed
within that time setting.

7. Timers :
A timer is a electrical device automatically opens and closes
an electrical circuit for a specific period of time.

12
Class ‘C’ :
1. Miniature circuit breaker :
A MPCB is a electrical device used for protection from
overload and short circuit currents . Also a MPCB used for
making and breaking of circuit whenever a fault occurs the
circuit.

2. Contact multiplication relay :

A CMR is a type of relay in which it has many no of contacts
so that the wiring can be set as in NO or NC. A CMR has in so
many types like (1NO+1NC, 2NC, 2NO, etc..,.).

3. Indication lamps :
Indication lamps are used for indicating of electrical
equipment whether it is live or not for representation of state
of a electrical device. It comprises of many colors and in
ratings .

13
4. Push buttons :
Push buttons are used for ON and OFF the electrical panels in
which it is either stay put type or spring return type . A push
button has contacts of NO or NC in either block stage or
modular stage arrangement. A push buttons are used for
normally open and normally closed condition.

5. Emergency push buttons :

A EMPB is used for in case of emergency condition. It is in
shape of mushroom head in shape . Whenever a unexcepted
conditions are arises then a EMPB can opens. Generally a
EMPB is in closed contact when in case of emergency it can
be opens so that supply will not flows to the circuit.

14
6. Terminal blocks :
A TB is a device used for connecting of Power lines(field
lines) and panel lines for a common device which is called
terminal block. It is of two types disconnecting and non
disconnecting TB’s.
