Q1
Disruptive innovations and trends such as the internet of things, robotics, virtual
reality, and artificial intelligence (AI) are challenging the way people live and
function in the current and evolving world.
i. Fusion of technologies
ii. Connectivity
iii. Technology break throughs,
The Fourth Industrial Revolution, like the previous revolutions, has the ability to
increase global income levels and boost the quality of life for people all over the
world. You can now order a taxi, book a ride, purchase a product, make a payment,
listen to music, watch a movie, or play a game from the comfort of your own home.
(i) New technology is rapidly being adopted by the global labor market. New
technology makes it easier for businesses to automate repetitive jobs,
which could upset the balance of job duties between humans and machines
and algorithms
Over the past two decades, the use of digital technologies has resulted in the
abolition of certain jobs while the development of new, previously unknown job
titles. The growth of online flight comparison sites, for example, has significantly
reduced the number of physical travel agents, and advances in mobile technology
have made switchboard operators obsolete.
(ii) The adoption of cyber-physical technologies such as the Internet of Things and the
Internet of Systems is part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry
4.0.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a term that refers to a The Internet of Things,
also known as IoT, is a network of interconnected smart devices that allows
each device to communicate (that is, send and receive data) with other devices
on the network.
The Internet of Systems is a set of interconnected systems. Company-owned
systems that can gather data from IoT networks and make independent
decisions about marketing strategies, revenues, and other aspects of your
business.
Our lives will be pointless without work, leading to drug abuse, crime, and
widespread public unrest.
(iii) In addition to new roles and responsibilities, the 4th Industrial Revolution may
lead to an increase in the use of specialist contractors or remote workers by
businesses. Employers can become more accepting of current workers who choose to
work remotely or with more flexibility as a result of new technologies and changing
demands.
It can allow them to hire a global workforce, boost employee morale and engagement,
scale more quickly, and achieve new levels of productivity.
(iv) The Fourth Industrial Revolution would have an effect on virtually every sector,
with The Economist estimating that 50% of workers will be automated. However,
since robots, like human workers, have a specific skill set, some sectors are more
likely to be automated than others.
The OECD published a list of functions that are likely to become redundant or
automated in particular industries. Food processing, building, washing, driving, and
agricultural occupations are at the top of the list.
(v) Finally, the Fourth Industrial Revolution would alter not only what we do, but who
we are as well. Our sense of privacy, our notions of ownership, our consumption
habits, the time we dedicate to work and leisure, and how we grow our professions,
cultivate our skills, meet people, and nurture relationships will all be affected by it.
The list goes on and on because we are only limited by our imagination.
Privacy is one of the most significant individual problems raised by emerging
information technologySimilarly, the biotech and AI revolutions are redefining what
it means to be human by pushing back the existing limits of life span, fitness, intellect,
and capacities, forcing us to redefine our moral and ethical boundaries.
Q1b.
1. Creating programs that are interesting to researchers and students: Google isn't
always the best option. As a result, the librarian completely comprehends the needs
and desires of students and researchers, allowing them to make a significant and
engaging difference in their work in the future.
2. Handling research data management tools: Data curation and research management
can take place in the libraries on campus.
To make this possible, librarians will need the help of their faculty and supervisors,
but they will also need to stay up to date on data processing advances so that analysis
does not become stale.
3. Putting the value of a librarian into perspective: Academic libraries are always on a
tight budget. This means that libraries must come up with convincing explanations of
how important their work is month after month, year after year, always with a
looming bottom line in mind. However, research has shown a connection between
student grade point averages and library material use, according to the American
Library Association. Staff must convey this connection and show why libraries need
more focus and public participation.
4. Digital preservation: Not only are there excellent products available to assist
libraries in doing so - even for the largest of collections - but it's becoming the trend
or norm
5. A broadening and more diverse consumer base: the twentieth century saw a major
change in technological advancement that influenced people of all ages. According to
21stCentury Library, a librarian may have to assist customers from six different
generations on any given day, ranging from baby boomers to millennials.
6. Nailing down library policies: With the increased usage of online tools, there are
many questions that might need to address to the administration. If the university can
buy e-books in addition to conventional print outlets, for example. Alternatively, as
many modern academic research centers are discovering, textbooks may not be
needed at all. There are only a few examples of library policies that staff and
administrators should be aware of as the year progresses.
7. Role development: Open Access has allowed librarians to become experts in an
ever-increasing number of subjects. Although no organization can process data at the
same rate as a machine, it can appear that way at times.
Adding budgeting and resource constraints to the mix will exacerbate the issue.
