b) A 50 Hz three phase transmission line is 250 km long. It has a total series [8M]
impedance of (30+j100) ohms and a shunt admittance of 914×10-6 mhos. It
delivers 50 MW 220 kV with 0.9 power factor lagging. Find the (i) sending end
voltage, (ii) voltage regulation and (iii) transmission efficiency by nominal-T
method.
(OR)
4 a) What is meant by Nominal π method of solution for the performance of long [7M]
transmission lines? Draw a phasor diagram with the receiving-end voltage as
reference.
b) A three-phase, 200 km long transmission line has the following constants. [8M]
Resistance/ ph/ km = 0.15 ohm, reactance/ ph/km = 0.20 ohm, shunt
admittance/ph/km = 1.2×10-6 mho. Calculate by rigorous method, the sending-
end voltage and current when the line is delivering a load of 20 MW at 0.8 p.f
lagging. The receiving-end voltage is kept constant at 110 kV.
UNIT-III
5. a) Derive reflection and refraction coefficient of transmission line when [7M]
terminated through a resistance.
b) A 200 kV surge travels on a transmission line of 400 ohms surge impedance [8M]
