Practice - ElectricalParameters of Not Gate
Practice - ElectricalParameters of Not Gate
Objective:
The objective of this practice is to familiarize students with the characterization of the electrical
parameters of the NOT gate in different technologies, as well as the measurement of input and
output currents. Additionally, the aim is to compare these parameters between a conventional NOT
gate and CMOS gates and bipolar transistor gates.
Materials:
The following materials are recommended, but students are not limited to making their materials
more efficient by changing them.
• Protoboard.
• Dip switch.
• AND gate: 7408 (four two-input AND gates on a single chip).
• OR gate: 7432 (four two-input OR gates on a single chip).
• XOR gate: 7486 (four two-input XOR gates on a single chip).
• NOR gate: 7402 (four two-input NOR gates on a single chip).
• NOT gate: 7404 (six NOT inverters on a single chip).
• NAND gate: 7400 (four two-input NAND gates on a single chip).
• Several resistors – 330 ohms.
• Several Leds.
• Power Supply of 5V and 500 mA (minimum)
• 74151: 8-to-1 MUX
• 74153: Dual 4-to-1 MUX

c. Not gate using 74LS04
2. Vary the input voltage from 0 to VCC using a 0.1 V step and measure the voltage across the
load resistor. For each of the circuits, and record your results in the table below.

3. Measure the total circuit and load power. For which you must measure the current
consumed by the complete circuit and the current consumed by the load. You must
measure the power consumed both when Vin = 0 and when Vin = VCC.

4. Using a oscillator, generate a square signal of 1 MHz and 0 – 5V. Take care regarding
offset. Then with the scope measure the input and output.
5. Then measure the delay time, rise and fall time for each circuit, and compare

6. Finally, using the same setup as last step, perform a frequency shift and note the base and
top voltage levels reached by each circuit.
