A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 4
Path of Light
I. Objectives
In this lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify what objects are luminous and non-luminous object.
2. Infer that light travels in a straight line.
3. Show through various activities that light travels in a straight line.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Path of Light
References: K to 12, Science learners’ material
Alternative Delivery Mode module - DepEd
Integrations: Science, Reading
Materials: flash drive, television, canva presentation, cardboard, laser,
tape, flashlight
III. Procedures
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Preparations
Good morning class Good morning, teacher Fina.
Everyone please stands and let us (Prayer)
pray.
How are you class? We are fine teacher.
Well, that’s great.
B. Motivation
We will play the game “Guess
who?”
Procedure:
- In this game there are only 1
guesser and 5 are players.
- The guesser’s eyes will be
covered by a handkerchief.
- The guesser will try to identify
the name of his/her classmates
by just touching their face, hair
and shoulders.
- There is a time limit of 5
minutes.
- If the guesser guessed correctly,
3 out of 5 students’ names. The
guesser will win.
- If the time runs up or the
guesser guessed 3 wrong names
already, the players will win.
C. Presentation of the Lesson
Based on our game, if you are the
guesser. Is it easy to guess who’s No teacher, it’s so hard.

we see?
Then how about our eyes are open Still no teacher.
but we are in a dark room without
any light, can you still see?
Then what do we need to properly We need light!
see our surrounding?
Very good, everything is dark if
there is no light and you can only
see things when there is light.
So today we will discuss about
light and its path.
D. Lesson Proper
Let’s start our lesson with the
question what is Light?
Can you please read Kali? (Student reads)
Light is a form of energy. That
allows us to see the world.
Without light we can’t see anything
from our surroundings.
The Sun is a very important source
of light energy. Without the energy
from the Sun, there would be no
plants or animals on Earth.
Light from the Sun warms the
Earth, drives global weather
patterns, and initiates the life-
sustaining process of
photosynthesis that makes the
plants to grow.
Besides from the Sun, other
sources can provide light. Burning
objects give off light. So do some
animals, such as fireflies and
certain fish. Lightning and electric
lightbulbs also produce light.
Those are also referred as the
natural and artificial sources of
light.
Can you please read what is natural (Student reads)
and artificial light, Zoey?
Natural light are light sources that
are made by God. While artificial
light, are light sources that are
made by man.
Here are some natural sources of
light. Most of it, are we can see
from our surrounding and some are
animals that we barely see.
These are the animals that are
naturally producing lights. Most of
them are types of fish or animals
that living in the ocean, as we
know that in the deep sea light
cannot penetrate through the
bottom of the ocean.
Next, we have the artificial light.
These lights are made by humans.
Some of the examples are,
campfire, candle, lights from the
cars, flashlight and more.
Now, that we discuss about things
that can produce light. We also
classify objects as luminous and
non-luminous object.
Can you please read Ben? (Student reads)
Luminous objects are things that
can produce light, this includes the
2 source of light that we discuss
earlier. The natural light and
artificial light.
While the non-luminous objects are
the things that cannot produce
light, like your notebook, pencil,
clothes, table and many more.
But non-luminous objects are
classified into 3:
• Transparent
• Translucent
• Opaque
Transparent object allows light to
passed through just like a window
glasses.
Translucent object is partially
allowing light to passed through.
One of its examples is an eyeglass.
While opaque object does not allow
any light to pass through it, just
like the wood, paper, metal and
clothes.
Now let’s move on to the path of
light, can you please read Francis?
Based from Albert Einstein, light is
made of little particles (photons),
and when a bunch of photons get
together, they act like a wave.
Although light acts like a wave, it
is still travelling in a straight line.
Just like the example in picture, the
light from the flashlight only
travels in straight line.
E. Fixing skills
Directions: Study the pictures.
Write Natural Light if it is made by
God and Artificial Light if it
is made by man. Answers:

F. Generalization
Base from our discussion and We learned about light and its
activity, what did you learn? path. We also learned that
there are 2 sources of light,
the natural and artificial light.
How about the direction that the The light travels at straight
light travelled? direction only.
G. Application
The class are divided into 5 groups.
Each group will bring the following
materials:
• Tape
• Box
• Cardboard
• Laser light or flashlight
Then to conduct the experiment,
follow the procedures:
1. Get a flashlight/laser light and
aim it at the ceiling. Observe the
path of light. Record your
observations.
2. Get a thick cardboard and block
the path coming from the
laser/flashlight. Record your
observations.
3. Get the three cardboards with
holes of the same size. Tape it
inside the box with at least 2
inches away from each other.
Align the holes in such a way
that the wall could be seen
through the holes.
4. Aim the laser/flashlight through
the first hole. Observe what
happens.
5. Now, misalign the cardboard in
the middle. Keep the light
aimed at the cardboards.
Observe what happens.
After conducting the experiment.
Answers the following questions: Answers:
1. Did the light form a straight line 1. Yes, it does.
when you aimed it at the
ceiling?
2. When you blocked the light 2. No. The cardboard blocked
with a thick cardboard, was it the light from the laser.
able to pass through it? Explain
your answer.
3. When you aligned the
cardboards with holes, was the 3. With the three holes
light able to pass through it? aligned, the light was able

4. When one of the cardboards
was not aligned with the other 4. The light could not pass
cardboards, was the light able to through the other
pass through the cardboards? cardboards. The cardboard
Why is this so? blocked the path of light.
5. What can you say about the way
light travels? 5. The light travels in straight
line when going through a
single medium through
which a light wave can
travel.
H. Evaluation
Directions: Write True if the
statement is correct and False if it
is not correct.
Answers:
1. Light rays could be blocked, and 1. False
they could pass through all types of 2. True
materials since they travel on a 3. False
straight line. 4. True
5. False
2. Light is made of little particles
called Photons.
3. Opaque objects allows light to
passed through.
4. The sun is the main source of
natural light.
5. Luminous objects are things that
doesn’t produced light.
IV. Assignment
Draw or cut out 5 pictures of animals that naturally produces light.
