A. Reviewing When you hear the word connection, what comes to your mind?

B. Establishing a Connection means a relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or
purpose for the associated with something else.

What is making connection to text? Have you experience crying while reading?
Laughing while reading?

C. Presenting You experience these because you personally connect your emotions to the text or
examples/instances story. You relate the text to your own experiences. You link what you read to what
of the new lesson you know. As a result, you can easily understand the text that you are reading.

When you view or read something, you may relate it to your OWN LIFE
EXPERIENCES, to the BOOK you read before, and even to the HAPPENINGS IN THE
WORLD.

The brain is wired to connect new information with the old knowledge that is in the
brain.

Making connections-
 Is a strategy that helps in making meaning from a text.
 When making connections to the texts that you are reading, it helps you to
make sense of what you read, retain the information better, and engage
more with the text itself.
You can make connections between:
1. TEXT-TO-SELF- you connect what you are reading to your personal
experiences
Examples:
a. “This story reminds me of a vacation we took to my grandfather’s
farm.”
b. I remember my high school days as I read this story.
c. The story of Coco reminds me of the happy moments I had with my
grandmother.
d. I read a book about the best sports for kids. It reminded me that I
had basketball practice that afternoon.
e. I read a book about how eggs are produced. It reminded me of my
visit last summer to my uncle’s farm.
Here are some process questions you can use as your guide in making text-to-self
connections:
What does this remind me of my life?
How is this similar to my life?
How is this different from my life?
Has something like this ever happened to me?
How does this relate to my life?
What are my feelings when I read this?
2. TEXT-TO-TEXT- you connect what you are reading to other books that you
have read before.
Examples:
a. I read a book about a venomous spider. Then, I remember an article
I’ve read before showing the Top 10 Dangerous Spiders of the world.
b. I read a story about a boy who visited a magical land with witches and
wizards. It reminded me of the book Harry Potter.
c. While reading, John notices that the main character in the story is
tough, just like the main character in the book he read yesterday.
Here are some process questions you can use as your guide in making text-to-text
connections:
What does this remind me of in another book I’ve read?
How is this text similar to other things I’ve read?
How is this different from other books I’ve read?
Have I read about something like this before?
3. TEXT-TO-WORLD -you can connect what you are reading to real events
whether in the past and present time, social issues, other people, and
happenings going on in the world.
Examples:
a. I saw the news about how water pollution is affecting marine animals. It
reminded me of the whale that died in Davao Gulf of the Philippines
which starved to dead because of more than 88 pounds plastic waste in
its belly.
b. I read a story about how people talk without speaking, and it reminded
me of school where sign language is taught.
c. Lisa is reading a science fiction story. In the story, she thinks that what
happens to the characters could also happen on Earth if people don’t
start recycling more.
Here are some process questions you can use as your guide in making text-to-
world connections:
What does this remind me of in the real world?
How is this text similar to things that happen in the real
world?
How is this different from things that happen in the real
world?
How did that part relate to the world around me?

D. Discussing new Read and analyze the sentences and identify the type of connections for each
concepts and item. Choose your answer from the box.

1. While reading, Rey notices that the main character is the story is strong
just like the main character in the book he read yesterday.
2. Vic John is reading a science fiction story. In the story, he thinks that what
happens to the characters could also happen on Earth if people don’t start
recycling more.
3. Joney is reading a book where a character visits a loved one in the hospital.
It reminds him of the time he visited his best friend in the hospital.
4. Gino is reading a book and notices that the main character’s aunt is very
similar to his Aunt Mariel.
5. Ghianne is reading a non-fiction book about the Civil war. She thinks that
the author of the book would disagree with a point another author made
about the Civil war.
6. Jefferson is reading a book about a country in Africa. While he as reading,
he thinks about a news story he just heard about that country.
7. Edison is reading a book about a communist society. It reminds him of the
government in a particular country.
8. The video we watched is somewhat the same as that we studied yesterday
in Araling Panlipunan.
9. The news report led me to recall the actual situation that our country is
facing now.
10. The setting in this story is the same as the setting in the story that I have
read in a book.

5. This movie is like the passage I read before whose author and editor is the
