a. The hope of the rule of the Messiah and
response of Gentiles
Today we will see how this chapter applies to three generations or eras:-
- The time of Isaiah
- The time of Christ
- Our time
1) A word about Judah and Jerusalem:-
In v. 1 Isaiah again introduce himself, here one word is very interesting
Isaiah SAW: - Whatever is happening in upcoming verses Isaiah has shown that.
Why God saw the vision related to Judah and Jerusalem? Let us see the historical BG
Isaiah has ministered in the time of The full reigns of all four kings. In a starting of his
ministry(Ch.6) Isaiah has known all the sins of King Uzziah, Let us briefly see what he
did:-
1 Chronicles 26-29
Uzziah (26)
1. Greatness :-
a. v. 6-8 mentions that he has won many battles and became politically strong
b. v.9-10:- He built many towers
c. v. 11-13 He has 3,07,500 well trained soldiers
d. v. 14-15:- He has built a secure land with lots of weapons
2. Fall:-
a. v.16:- He became proudy and that led him to destruction
b. v.16 :- He went to do sacrifices on the temple, which was not his work.
Jotham:- 27
1. Greatness:-
a. v.2- He did not entered God’s temple
b. V3-4:- He built cities,upper gate, towers,forts
2. Things which haven’t did:-
a. He did not removed the high place which uzziah has created for idol worship
so people have did idol sacrifice there
Ahaz:- 28
1. There are no good things which is written for Ahaz in the bible
2. He was the biggest idolater of Judah
Because of all this kings who have made many military things and buildings and also they
have gathered many money and political power people of Judah and Jerusalem became
proud because of their economic and military strength and they have started Idolatry and
that’s why God has shown this vision to Isaiah.
Question:- Read 2-3 verses and then tell me that is there any things written concerning
people of JUDAH? - no there is no mention of them here God is showing that in their
idolatry How God’s kingdom and majesty will come and other people will be the part of
it.but They may take part
v. 2-3: - The universal kingdom of Christ and Gentiles: -
Question: - When will this kingdom come?
v.2:- Last days:- This term refers to when the Messiah comes and restores His people. It
also suggests the long-coming period of restoration.
Broadly, this speaks of the time many refer to as the millennium, the thousand-year reign
of Jesus on this earth.
Which places Isaiah has mentioned here?
1. The mountain of the LORD’s house:- Mountain is often described that Lord’s
kingdom will set high above all kingdom:-
a. In ancient myths, gods often lived on holy mountains. Traditions about the
god Baal are slightly at odds with the images of the holy mountain. People in
Canaan thought that Mount Zaphon was where Baal lived. Hebrew writers
often used common Canaanite images to talk about Yahweh to show how
much better He was. Isaiah may be trying to get Judah to understand that
Yahweh is the only God. In the end, even other countries will see this.
2.All people will come :- While Isaiah’s message was directed at Judah, he looks ahead to a
day when God’s salvation will be for all the nations, not just Israel.
How can we connect this prophecy with the life of jesus?
This is related to Jesus' frequent teaching on mountains and hills, especially the Sermon on
the Mount (Matthew 5-7), in which he elaborated on the fundamentals of God's kingdom. In
His time we can see that people from various nations came to him for healing, teaching, and
to witness his miracles. Additionally, after Jesus' resurrection, the disciples were
commissioned to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19).
3. What will other people say in that time?
- Let us go:- People in the last time will encourage one another to come and worship living
God
- He will teach us His ways:- In the time of Isaiah when Judah and Jerusalem was having
many sins and when they are away from God,Isaiah is preaching that but one day all the
nations will seek it eagerly.
What will be the conduct of people in the kingdom?
- . Implementation of Justice:- In his Kingdom God will judge his people,
- Implementation of Peace:- In the time of Isaiah Judah has been under threat of war for
years; one day, God’s righteous reign on earth will be accompanied by international peace.
How can we connect this prophecy with the life of jesus?
This component is fulfilled by Jesus' teachings on judgment and righteousness, and he will
eventually judge the living and the dead (Matthew 25:31-46; Acts 10:42).
No sword :- This imagery stands for the change from weapons of war to weapons of peace
and wealth. One way to see this prophecy coming true is to look at Jesus' lessons, which
were based on love, forgiveness, and peace. God's kingdom coming into the world through
Jesus changes people spiritually and brings peace to both individuals and states.
By mentioning all of things about how the gentile people is responding to the kingdom, God
is instructing people to do something
What is that and to whom?
Here in 4 verses Gentile people is giving positive response to the God’s coming kingdom so
now God is instructing Judah to walk in the light of the God
Question:- According to you WHAT IS THE LIGHT OF GOD?
After painting the picture of the glory of the Messiah’s reign, and How gentiles are living
that Isaiah then challenges Judah (house of Jacob) to live in the Messiah’s reign right now.
Light of God contains: -
- God’s blessings
- God’s presence
- God’s revelation
Why people of Judah needs to walk in the light of the lord?
Because of their sins of idolatry and proud the light has taken away from them, God’s
blessings, God’s presence and God’s Revelation was taken away from their lives because
they are not walking with God and that’s why Isaiah is telling them to walk in the light of
the God.
In their situation how can people of Judah and Jerusalem walk in the light of the lord?
1. They have to remove every idols
2. They have to being humble
Application:-
1. Here we see tweo type of sin :-
a. Idolatry
b. Pride
In a time of Isaiah and Jesus there were people who was having certain idols which were
keeping them away from God and there were some materials which that people holds which
caused them to get proudy and not rely on god.
If we connect this passage with our generation we can see that
1. There are many things which keeps us away from god and that things is IDOL
2. There are many things which we have like materials and positions which causes us
to not rely on God
Such things keeps us aside from the Light of the Lord.
2. v.3 Here we see one conduct:-
Conduct of Gentiles:- they really seek God in the last time by coming to God by knowing
his ways and by leaving their own military things, they seeks to learn God’s ways and they
wants to practice it in a practical way by walking in it
When we are living in a latter days we have to understand the need of coming to the lord,
learning his ways. We have develop teachable self. We try to learn about God’s ways but we
are unable to walk in it we have to practice it in our life
3. Gentiles let God to justify and making peace in them:- As a believer we do judge
other people but here we learn that we have to let God judge others and we have to
live in harmony and peace.
4. V.5 :- Even after their lots of Sins God remembers His people and instructs them to
walk in the light:- After our sinful conduct God is giving us second chance to walk in
his light.
5. BLESSINGS OF GOD WITHOUT GOD IS CURSE
6. How can you find thay you are not walking the light of the lord?
a. ASK YOURSELF
i. Are you getting spiritual blessings of God?
ii. Are you feeling and experiencing God’s presence?
iii. Are you getting daily devotions from God?
Isaiah Bible Study Part 2 :-
The fear that judgment will come soon.
(Isaiah 2.6 to 22)
• In verses 6–9, he lists the sins that keep Judah from walking in his light.
(Recap of last BS)
Isaiah 2.6:-
- Question:- Which thing makes People different from God?
- Why did God forsake His own people? Or what lets The Loving God to Forsake His
people?
o The simple answer is their sins
o Our God is so holy that He cannot compromise with sins at all
- Which type of sin did Judah commit in last week’s passage?
o Isaiah is mentioning another sin of Judah :-
▪ V.7-8 :- Developed Lots of Worldly Strength
▪ V.8-9:- Idolatry
QUESTION:- What does it mean that Judah is filled with Eastern ways?
So, according to Map of Judah, Judah is surrounded by Philistine, Moab and Edom and in
the east of it Moab and Edom come. and also they are surrounded by Philistins, So when
Isaiah says Eastern ways, it means that People from other countries had gotten Judah's
attention with their fake gods. This was not a message against immigrants. God is not
against if people make friends of other cultures, Some cultures and traditions are bad, but
God is against them if they praise and worship false gods.
This thing led God to forsake them because they are under the religious, spiritual and
cultural influence of other gods.
HOW CAN WE CONNECT THIS WITH THE TIME OF CHRIST?
- during the time of Christ, the Jewish people were under Roman rule and faced
pressure to conform to Greco-Roman religious practices and customs. There was a
struggle to preserve Jewish identity amidst Roman and Greek cultural influences.
V.7:- Worldly Power :- Which kind of worldly strength did Judah had?
• Silver, Gold and tressures refers to their Royalty and financial power
• Many horses and chariots refers to their military power
o As we saw last time that Uzziah and Jotham has developed many financial
and military strength and that made them very prideful and self-reliance.
IS OUR GOD AGAINST GOLD AND PROSPERITY?
No,God is not against money and wealth, and he may choose to bless some people with a lot
of money. This is a warning to people who love money and put their trust in it instead of
God.
In this verse Isaiah wants to convey that People has developed Military and Economic
strength and in that they have started putting their faith. And such thing made them to
avoid relying on God.
v.8-9 :- Idolatry:- Here again Isaiah has mentioned that people has developed Idols.
Here Isaiah is making Idols very small by referring it as a HANDIMADE and He is
referring to YHWH as a powerful and uncreated God.
In V.9 Why Isaiah said that DO NOT FORGIVE THEM?
By seeing all this cruelty and things which are against God. Isaiah gave an Human
response that GOD DO NOT FORGIVE THEM. But in his heart he knew that God is going
to forgive.
In verses 10–22, he talks about the Day of Judgment.
Question:- In v.10 which advice is Isaiah giving?
- Enter the rock
- Hide in the dust
o By mentioning God as a terrorful and majestic God Isaiah is telling to the
people that Confess your sins and enter in the rock who is God.
Read v.`11-18 and tell WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE DAY OF THE LORD?
1. Every proud of man will be humbled
2. Everything (Money, structure) which is lifted will bow down before God
3. God will destroy all the idols
In these verses God will deal with human pride.
V.22 What does this verse mean?
- Why Isaiah is telling people to leave the hope of the human?
Here Isaiah is asking a question that FOR WHO ACCOUNT IS MAN?
If men are only men, why do we give so much attention to the opinions of men? Why rise so
high on the praise of men, and get so low at their disapproval? We have something –
Someone – better to live for.
How do we connect these verses with our lives?
1. Are we following other cultures which becomes subtitue of God?
2. To whom we are relying?
3. In the day of judgement what will happen to us?
Charles Spurgeon :-
“Brethren in Christ, let us think more of God and less of man. Come, let the Lord our
God fill the whole horizon of our thoughts. Let our love go forth to him; Iet us delight
ourselves in him. Let us trust in him that liveth for ever, in him whose promise never
faileth, in him who will be with us in life, and in death, and through eternity. Oh that we
lived more in the society of Jesus, more in the sight of God! Let man go behind our
back, and Satan too. We cannot spend our lives in seeking the smiles of men, for
pleasing God is the one object we pursue. Our hands, and our heads, and our hearts,
and all that we have and are, find full occupation for the Lord, and therefore we must
‘Cease from man.’”
