Practical File Instructions
Complete guide on how to prepare and organize your practical file for Grade 10 Information
Technology.
1. Open Your Practical File Questions:
o Open the document or file that contains the practical file questions for your
Information Technology subject.
2. Copy the Question and Steps:
o Locate the specific practical question or activity you need to complete.
o Copy the steps or instructions related to the activity from your practical file.
3. Open the Practical File Template:
o Open your practical file template.
o Ensure that the template is formatted correctly with sections like:
▪ Question/Activity
▪ Procedure
▪ Output/Screenshot
4. Paste the Question and Steps:
o Paste the copied question and steps under the appropriate section in your practical
file template.
o Ensure that the formatting is clean, with appropriate headings for each section.
5. Perform the Activity:
o Follow the steps from the question and perform the required task in the software
(either LibreOffice or MS Office depending on availability).
▪ Example: If the task involves creating a document, spreadsheet or dbms
complete the activity as described.
6. Take a Screenshot of the Output:
o After completing the activity, take a screenshot of the output file.
7. Paste the Screenshot into the Template:
o Go back to your practical file template.
o Paste the screenshot under the Output/Screenshot section corresponding to the
activity you just completed.
8. Repeat for Each Activity:
o For every new activity or question in the practical file, repeat the above process:
▪ Copy the question and steps.
▪ Perform the activity.
▪ Take a screenshot of the output.
▪ Paste the screenshot into the practical file template.
9. Save Your File:
o After completing all the tasks and organizing the questions, steps, and screenshots,
save your practical file with an appropriate name (e.g., “Sam_10A IT Practical File”).
10. Review and Format:
o Review your entire file to make sure that each section is clear, well-formatted, and
that all screenshots are visible.
o Ensure consistent formatting across all activities (e.g., headings, bullet points, etc.).
Software Requirements:
• LibreOffice: This is the preferred software for completing tasks. It is free and can be
downloaded if not already installed.
• MS Office: If LibreOffice is not available, you can use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
to complete the activity.
