Chapter Four: Elevators

4.15 ELEVATOR CALCULATIONS

Some Definitions

 N Total Number of Elevator

 PHC% Percent Handling Capacities

 AVTRP Average Trip Time

 RT Round Trip Time

 I Interval Time

 P Normal Passenger Load per Trip

Total Number of Floors = 30 Floor

Number of Apartement Floors Rooms = 28 Floor Rooms

Sleeping Rooms in one floor = 10 Rooms

Total Number of Rooms = 10*28= 280 Rooms

From Building population table

Building Type Population in Area

For Hotels Persons per Sleeping Room

Normal Use 1.3

Convential 1.9

Building population = 1.9*216= 410.4 = 411 Person

Chapter Four: Elevators

From Minimum Percent Handling Capacities table

Percent of Population To be
Facility
Carried in 5 Minute
Office Building

Center City 12 - 14

Investment 11.5 - 13

Single - Purpose 14 - 16

Residential

Prestige 5-7

Others 6-8

Dormitories 10 -11

Hotels – First quality 12 - 15

Hotels – Second quality 10 -12

PHC% = 13.5 %

PHC = 0.135

HC=PHC*Building Population= 0.135*411 = 56 Person

Ground Floor Height = 5 m

Basement Floor Height = 4.5 m

Duct Floor Height = 0.5 m

- 951 -
Chapter Four: Elevators

Rooms Floor Height = 3.5 m

Rise of the Building = 5+4.5+0.5+(3.5*28)= 108 m

From Elevator equipment Recommendations table

When 86 m < Rise < 115 m

We use Minimum car Speed 800 f.p.m ( 4 m/s )

From Elevator Catalogue Maximum Car Speed 800 f.p.m (4m/s)

From previous table Elevator Capacity only 2500 Ib & 3000 Ib

To give Car Passenger Capacity

Chapter Four: Elevators

Elevator Maximum Passenger Normal

Capacity Capacity Passenger Load
Ib Per Trip
2000 12 10

2500 17 13

3000 20 16

3500 23 19

4000 28 22

AT Elevator Capacity = 2500 Ib

Normal Passenger Load per Trip (P) = 13 Passengers

AT Elevator Capacity = 3000 Ib

Normal Passenger Load per Trip (P) = 16 Passengers

From Fig (31-15)

To give Average Trip Time ( AVTRP )

From Fig (31-17)

To give Round Trip Time ( RT )

- 951 -
Chapter Four: Elevators

Using Car Capacity = 2500 Ib

Speed = 800 f.p.m

AVTRP = 119.4 Seconds

RT = 245.7 Seconds

I = RT/N = 245.7/5 = 49.14 Seconds

From table 31-4

The quality of service

is Excellent

Chapter Four: Elevators

To give the power of the motor versue speed and car

Capacity by using (nexway) catalogue

- 954 -
Chapter Four: Elevators

Speed = 800 f.p.m = 240 m/min = 4 m/s

Input Power Required of the motor = 29 KW

Group Demand Factor For Five Elevators = 0.67

Total Instantenous Powe Required =(5*29*0.67) = 97.15 KW

To give the power of the motor versue speed and car

Capacity by using curve of book

Speed = 800 f.p.m = 240 m/min = 4 m/s

Output Power Required of the Gearless motor = 44 hp = 32 KW

(best)

Output Power Required of the Geared motor = 56 hp = 41 KW

- 955 -
Chapter Four: Elevators

Group Demand Factor For Five Elevators = 0.67

Total Instantenous Powe Required =(5*44*0.67) = 147.4 hp

System Power = 147.4/(0.8*0.92) = 200.27 hp =149.34 KW

The Dimensions of the Machine Room

From table 31-4

To give the Dimensions of the Machine Room

Speed = 800 f.p.m = 4 m/s

Car Capacity = 2500 Ib

The Machine Room dimensions = 21*26 ft = 6.4*7.9 m
