A plantation is a large farm or estate where a
single type of crop is grown on a large scale. The
term originated during European colonization of
the New World's tropical and subtropical regions.
Plantations are often associated with the
cultivation of cash crops like coffee, tobacco,
cotton, and sugar.

Neem
Introduction
• Scientific Name : Azadirachta indica
• Common Name : Neem
• Family : Meliaceae
• Origin : Indian Subcontinent
Neem is a fast-growing, evergreen tree that can reach up to 20–30
meters in height with a wide-spreading canopy. It is native to the
Indian subcontinent, but due to its resilience, it has been introduced to
various tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. Neem has long
been valued in traditional cultures for its hardy nature, ability to grow
in drought-prone areas, and for the various compounds that are found
in different parts of the tree.
Key characteristics
1. Leaves : Neem leaves are pinnate, with each leaf consisting of 9 to 17 leaflets.
They remain on the tree for extended periods and their
bitterness is notable.
2. Flowers : The tree produces small, white, fragrant
flowers. These flowers bloom in clusters and are usually
present in the summer months.
3. Fruits : Neem fruits are smooth, olive-shaped drupes, green when unripe, and
yellow when mature. Inside the fruit, there is a single seed that contains oil-rich
kernels.
4. Growth Conditions: Neem thrives in arid and semi-arid climates with minimal
water requirements. It can grow in poor, rocky soils and is highly resistant to
drought. It prefers well-drained soils and full sun exposure.
5. Roots: The roots anchor the tree and absorb water and nutrients from the soil.
They also help in preventing soil erosion.
6. Trunk: The trunk is sturdy and can grow quite thick. It provides structural
support to the tree and is the source of neem wood, which is durable and
resistant to pests.
7. Branches: Neem trees have spreading branches that create a broad canopy,
providing shade and shelter for wildlife.
8. Seeds: The seeds found inside the fruits are the primary means of propagation
and can be used to extract neem oil, which has various uses.

These parts work together to make the neem plant a valuable resource for both
ecological and medicinal purposes.
Uses
1. Natural Pesticide: Neem oil and neem-based products act as eco-friendly
insecticides and pesticides. They are non-toxic to humans, animals, and beneficial
insects but effective against pests that harm crops.
2. Medicinal Benefits: Neem has potent antimicrobial,
antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is
used in traditional medicine for treating skin conditions,
dental issues, digestive problems, and more.
3. Soil Improvement: Neem trees enhance soil quality by improving water retention
and enriching the soil with organic matter through their leaf litter.
4. Air Purification: Neem trees help in improving air quality by absorbing pollutants
and releasing oxygen, making them beneficial in urban areas.
5. Drought Resistance: Neem trees can grow in harsh, dry environments and are
resilient to drought, making them a crucial tree species for afforestation in arid
regions.
6. Sustainable Agriculture: Neem-based products
can be used to produce bio-fertilizers and soil conditioners,
promoting organic farming without reliance on chemical
fertilizers.
Problem faced by neem tree &
solutions for those problems
1. Pest Infestation: Neem trees can be affected by pests like aphids and
whiteflies.
Solution: Use neem oil as a natural pesticide
to control these pests.
2. Disease Susceptibility: Neem plants may
suffer from fungal infections such as powdery mildew.
Solution: Ensure proper air circulation and avoid overhead
watering to prevent diseases.
3. Soil Nutrient Deficiency: Poor soil can lead to nutrient
deficiencies in neem plants.
Solution: Regularly test and amend the soil with organic
matter or fertilizers.
4. Environmental Stress: Extreme weather conditions can stress the
neem plant.
Solution: Implement proper irrigation practices to manage water levels
effectively.
5. Invasive Growth: Neem can become invasive in some regions,
outcompeting native plants.
Solution: Monitor its growth and manage its spread through controlled
removal if necessar
Reasons to plant neem tree
in college campus
1. Natural Air Conditioner: Neem trees act as natural air
conditioners, providing cool shade during hot days, which can
enhance the comfort of outdoor learning and social
spaces.
2. Cultural Significance: The neem tree holds a special
place in Indian culture and tradition, symbolizing health and
prosperity. Planting it on campus can foster a sense
of cultural pride among students.
3. Wildlife Habitat: Neem trees attract various birds and beneficial
insects, promoting biodiversity and creating a vibrant ecosystem right
within our college grounds.
4. Low Maintenance: Neem trees are hardy and drought-resistant,
requiring minimal maintenance once established, making them a
practical choice for our campus landscaping.
Our group planting neem plant
Our experience
