KA’BAH AND HAJJ (PILGRIMAGE)

The Ka’bah is the house of Allah (Baitullah) in Makkah. It is a cube-


shaped building covered by a a large black cloth. Muslims must face toward the
Ka’bah at the time of Salat. This direction we face is called the Qiblah. It was
built by the first prophet Adam (‘alaihi salam) and rebuilt by the Prophet
Ibrahim (‘alaihi salam) and Ismail. It is the first house built in in earth for the
worship of Allah.
The Ka’bah is also important for other worship in Islam. It is called Hajj.
Hajj is visit to the Ka’bah during the month of Dhul Hijjah by those Muslims
who can afford the trip. Muslim tries to do pilgrimage at least once in a life time.
During Hajj, muslims from all over the world get together in Makkah. It is a
yearly gathering of Muslims.
There is a festival which comes during Hajj. This festival is called “Idul
Adha. There is also a special “Id prayer in the morning. On this day we
remember when Prophet Ibrahim (‘alaihi salam) was really to obey Allah and
sacrifice his son Prophet Isma’il (‘alahi salam).

Modifying Nouns with Nouns and Adjectives

Adjectives can modify nouns.

Example: I bought an expensive book.


(Expensive adjective; booknoun)
Example: I bought a grammar book.
Noun can modify other nouns.

Both adjectives and nouns can modify nouns at the same time

sometimes there are three.
