Install Auxiliary Terminal Cabinet

Learning Objectives:
After reading this information sheet, you must be able to:
1. Identify auxiliary terminal cabinet component
2. Demonstrate how to install auxiliary terminal on the board

INTRODUCTION:
In modern electrical and control systems, auxiliary panel
cabinets play a crucial role in ensuring efficient and organized distribution
of power and signals. These cabinets are designed to support the primary
distribution panels by offering supplementary space for circuit breakers,
relays, meters, and other essential components. Their strategic placement
and configuration enhance the overall functionality and reliability of the
system.
The board shall be constructed to be suitable for interchange
ability of breakers and for future
extension. The board shall be suitable
for top or bottom cable connections,
and shall be provided with gland
plates, removable for drilling
An auxiliary terminal cabinet and
a distribution panel are components
typically found in electrical systems,
particularly in industrial settings or
large buildings where there is a need
to distribute electrical power to
various points efficiently and safely.
Here’s a breakdown of each:
Auxiliary Terminal Cabinet:
o Purpose: This cabinet serves as a central point for
connecting various electrical circuits, usually low voltage (LV)
circuits.
o Function: It houses terminal blocks where different electrical
wires or cables can be connected and terminated.

OPERATION SHEET 1.3-1
Title: OPERATE ELECTRIC DRILL

Performance Objective: Given the necessary supplies/materials

and equipment, as per PEC standards, in 15
minutes, you will be able to operate Electric
drill

Supplies/Materials : Panel board , drill bit

Equipment : Electric drill

: PPE

Steps/Procedure:
1. Select the Drill Bit or Driver
Drill bits: If drilling a pilot drill for a screw,
the bit should be the same diameter as the
shank of the screw. The shank is the
screw's inner core or its shaft.
Drill drivers: Select a Phillips head, flat
head, square head, or other type of driver
shape to match the fastener that you are
driving.
2. Adjust the Drill's Clutch
After checking whether the drill is in
forward or reverse, adjust the drill's clutch
speed/torque setting. Drills differ but
usually setting 1 indicates low speed and
high torque, which is best for driving
screws. Setting 2 represents high speed
and low torque, best for drilling holes.
3. Chuck in the Driver or Drill Bit
Most power drills have a keyless chuck
function. Loosen the drill's collar by turning
it counter-clockwise (if the drill is facing
you) until the chuck opens just large
enough to permit the driver or drill bit.
Then, you tighten by turning the collar in
the opposite direction. The rotation of the

drill will keep the driver or bit securely in place.

4. Drill a Pilot Hole (Optional)

For driving screws into woods prone to
cracking, begin with a pilot hole. Chuck in a drill
bit slightly less than the diameter of the screw
that you will be driving. Drill the hole, then
follow by driving the screw.
5. Place the Driver or Drill Bit
With your finger off the drill's trigger, place the
drill bit on the spot where you intend to drill. If
you are driving a screw, place the driver bit in
the head of the screw.
6. Drill the Hole or Drive the Fastener
Brace the drill with your free hand, then gently
pull on the trigger. Begin drilling or driving
slowly. Most power drills have a variable speed
option: the speed of the drill's rotation
increases or decreases in response to the
pressure of your finger on the trigger.
7. Press on the Drill
When drilling downward, the weight of the drill
often will exert enough pressure to carry the
drill through the material. In most instances,
though, you should gently press the drill toward
the work material.
8. Remove the Drill Bit or Driver
Drill bits: Pull outward while the drill is
rotating. Pull straight out to avoid widening the
hole. If the drill bit is stuck, turn the drill to its
reverse mode and slowly rotate the drill bit
while pulling out.
Drill drivers: First stop driving, then remove
the driver from the fastener.

2. Determine the steps and procedure in installing auxiliary distribution
panel

INTRODUCTION:

An auxiliary distribution panel is a crucial component in

electrical systems, designed to enhance the distribution and management
of electrical power within various settings. Unlike main distribution panels,
which handle the primary incoming electrical feed, auxiliary distribution
panels serve to distribute power to specific circuits or areas within a
building or facility.
These panels are especially
valuable in complex
installations where power
needs to be segmented or
where additional control is
required. By providing an
intermediary point for
distributing electricity, they
help in reducing load on the
main panel, allowing for
better organization and
easier maintenance of
electrical systems.
Typically equipped with multiple circuit breakers or fuses, auxiliary
distribution panels offer protection, control, and monitoring capabilities for
individual circuits. They are commonly used in commercial buildings,
industrial plants, and large residential properties to manage power
distribution effectively and ensure safety and reliability in electrical
operations.
In essence, auxiliary distribution panels play a pivotal role in optimizing
power management and ensuring that electrical systems function
smoothly and efficiently.

STEPS AND PROCEDURES

1.Mount the Subpanel

Mount the subpanel about a foot away

from the main service panel. Determine
how far the wires will have to travel in the
subpanel and pull wires (shown) or add
cable and strip sheathing accordingly.
Remove a knockout slug, slide the wires
through, and clamp the cable

2.Plan Route
At the main service panel, plan the routes for
the four wires: ground, neutral, and two hot
wires (black and red). Strip the sheathing,
remove a knockout slug, and clamp the cable.
Route the neutral and ground wires carefully
and connect them to their bus bar(s)
3. Strip Wires
Route, cut, and strip the red and black wires.
Connect them to the feeder breaker. Snap the
breaker into place.

4.Connect Wires
In the subpanel, route the feeder wires, cut and
strip them, and connect to terminals. Connect

the black and red wires to the hot bus bars, the neutral wire to the main
neutral terminal, and the ground wire to the ground bus bar.

5.Finish Connecting Wires

Run cable for new circuits into the subpanel and
clamp the cable. For each circuit, route wires
around the perimeter, connect the ground wire
to the ground bus bar, the white wire to the
neutral bus bar, and the hot wire to a circuit
breaker
