Allah’s Messengers
Passage 11 Surah Baqarah (2:30-37)
Part a Themes
Theme of this passage from Surah Baqarah is God’s Messengers or God as a creator and his
relationship with his Prophets.
It describes the story of creation of Hazrat Adam and his especially elevated status granted by
God’s decree.
These verses of Surah Baqarah speak of the creation of man, the high station and destiny
intended for him, particularly with reference to his being appointed the khalifa or vicegerent of
Allah on earth, his excellence in knowledge over other creation ,including the angels;his
endowment with special faculties and abilities;his fall and the hope held out to him.
Here it is also taught that Allah puts all humans through test, including His Messengers.
Another teaching is that if a person accepts his mistakas after committing any wrong he can be
forgiven .This highlights the colossal mercy of Allah for His Messengers.
Superiority of Hazrat Adam was duly acknowledged by all angels except Iblis who showed
arrogance (since he was a jinn, not an angel).
Hazrat Adam and Eve were granted paradise but Iblis (now named Satan) maneuvered their
exile from there, out of jealousy and malice.
On repentance on their mistakes ,Hazrat Adam and Eve were pardoned by God who awarded
them a new phase of worldly living . The Quran mentions the phase at another place as
“It is We who have placed you with authority on earth .”(7;10).
The Quran usually mentions the story of creation of Hazrat Adam and Eve together with the role
of Satan with the dual purpose of highlighting the dignified status of humankind as well as
warning humans of satan’s nefarious attics.
For example it says,
“ But satan whispered evil to him (Hazrat Adam ), he said , “O Adam! Shall I lead you to the tree
of Eternity and to a Kingdom that never decays”(20:120 Taha).
Adam was chosen by God as his Prophet and representative, God maintained the relationship
despite obstacles which shows an understanding of how God’s will always triumphs.
Part B
This passage is very important in the lives of Muslims as it related with the belief in the Prophets
which is an article of faith.
Muslims learn to resist Shaytan and his evils in their daily lives as he has been trying to trap
mankind since the creation of Hazrat Adam, the first man of the world.
Muslims understand through the themes in this passage that it is quite possible they err but if
they repent, forgiveness awaits them from their merciful God.
This passage instills the strengths into the hearts of the Muslims that they are protected under
God but they have to turn to him for salvation and peace in their lives.
Allah (SWAT) always showers His bounties on His obedient servants. We must implore
forgiveness for all our sins and seek Allah’s refuge against all evils as Adam did.
It also remids that we are Allah’s representatives on this earth and we must do His bidding and
should worship Him. It is a momenteous responsibility that we cannot ignore.
We should remain fearful of Allah’s wrath for crossing His limits.
The believer therefore always tries to follow the right path in his life.
It also shows God’s care and direct relationship with every individual.
