~Where the Red Fern Grows~

Due: _2/7/12__ Directions: Choose one of the following projects to complete. You will present them in front of the class. Option #1- Invent an award that a character from the novel should receive. The award should be creative. With the award, you must turn in a half sheet (handwritten) explanation of who is receiving it, and what the person/dog had to accomplish to receive it. The award must be 3-D. Option #2- Create a postcard that has a picture on one side. On the other side, write a letter/note from one character to another. The picture should be colorful and creative. The message from the character should be realistic and fit into the novel. Option #3- Write a letter to future readers of this book. You may encourage them to read it for specific reasons, warn them about particular parts of the book, and briefly describe what its about without giving away the ending! This must be a full page, typed. Option #4- Create a cartoon, with at least ten pictures, that shows a scene or event from the novel. You may use captions or conversation balloons, comic-strip style. This must be fully colored and creative to receive full points. Option #5- Create a childrens book version of Where the Red Fern Grows. The book should be: a) boundtied together somehow, b) illustrated (pictures on each page), and c) have captions, rather than full text. This should be roughly 10 pages. Option #6- Create and perform a puppet show based on a scene from the novel. It is your job to create the puppets and props necessary to perform your skit. The performance should be at least two minutes in length. You will need to turn in the script when finished. Option #7- Create a presentation board depicting a time-line of all major events in the novel. You may make this as artistic as you like, but be sure to include and describe at least 20 events.
