Introductions provide a good opportunity to think about who you are, what experience
you bring to the course and the goals you have for yourself personally and professionally.
Purpose
To enhance written communication skills needed to effectively communicate with
colleagues and families.
1. Practice professional written, verbal, nonverbal and electronic communication in
Learning preparation for working with children, families, colleagues, employers, and
Outcomes community partners.
2. Use reflection to examine and evaluate the impact of culture on communication.

General Overview
The assignment will be completed INDIVIDUALLY.

Student are required to submit a paper (500 words max limit).

Reflection is used as a learning tool beginning with concrete experience, observation, abstract
conceptualization, and then active experimentation.

Type up a paper reflecting on a time you communicated with another person or group of people. Reflect
on the following ideas in your paper.

1. What was the channel?


2. What kind of noise was present during that conversation? Remember, there are different kinds
of noise that can be present. Be specific on which one.
3. What was the context for that communication?
4. Reflect on that conversation; was it an effective conversation? Did you say everything you
needed to? Did you feel heard by the other person? How so? Remember to discuss abstract
conceptualization, which is the idea that you are drawing conclusions from a concrete
observation.
5. Using the article posted in slate (Required Readings for Module 1), discuss on you can improve
your communication process for future communication.

Clear connection must be made to course content through readings, course slides or external research.
Proper use of APA formatting is required for this paper. This includes a title page and reference list.
