UNIT-4: Generative Artificial Intelligence

Introduction to Generative AI

What is Generative AI?

 Generative artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the algorithms that generate new
data that resembles human-generated content, such as audio, code, images, text,
simulations, and videos.

Generative AI vs Conventional AI
Here are some significant variations:

Generative AI

Generative AI comes in a variety of forms, each with unique advantages and uses.
Some of the most typical varieties are listed below:
1. Text Generation:
Language Models: These generate coherent text based on prompts. Examples
include OpenAI's GPT-3 and GPT-4, Google's BERT, and T5.
2. Image Generation:
GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks): These generate realistic images from
random noise. Examples include StyleGAN and BigGAN.
VAEs (Variational Autoencoders): These generate images by learning the
distribution of input data.
3. Audio Generation:
Music Generation: AI that composes music. Examples include OpenAI's MuseNet
and Jukedeck.
4. Video Generation: DeepFakes: AI-generated videos that can
superimpose faces. Examples include DeepFaceLab and FaceApp.
The limitations of generative AI include:
1. Data Bias: It relies on the quality of data it is trained on. Biased or incomplete data can result in biased or

flawed outputs, leading to inaccurate results in applications like facial recognition or language processing.

2. Uncertainty: Generative AI can produce inaccurate or misleading content, which requires fact-checking,
especially in critical areas like research or legal documents. It can also generate unpredictable or fictional

content that may appear realistic.

3. High Computational Demands: Training and generating outputs with generative AI require significant
computational resources, which can be expensive and time-consuming.

4. Job Displacement: Automation of tasks, like content creation, may displace jobs in certain sectors,

though it could create new opportunities in AI development and management.

5. Deepfakes and Misinformation: Malicious actors can misuse generative AI to create deepfakes or

spread misinformation, emphasizing the need for critical evaluation of online content.

 Ethical considerations of using Generative AI

The Potential Negative Impact on Society
 Generative AI can be used to create fake news or deep fakes that can spread
misinformation and manipulate public opinion. 

 Lead to job displacement for humans who previously performed these tasks.

 Generative AI has the potential to generate sensitive personal information, such as social
security numbers or medical records, which could be used for malicious purposes.

Responsible Use of Generative AI
 Ensuring that the training data used are diverse and representative.
 The outputs are scrutinized for bias and misinformation.
 Prioritizing user privacy and consent,
 Having clear guidelines around ownership and attribution of generative content.
 Engaging in public discussions around the social and ethical implications of this
technology to ensure that it is developed and used in ways that are beneficial to
society.
