Name:Maanam
Date:26-11-24

Introduction:
In today’s digital age, being a good digital citizen is essential, especially in the world of sports.
This task sheet will help you understand the importance of digital citizenship and how to apply it
in sporting contexts.

Task 1: Research and Reflection

Objective: Understand the concept of digital citizenship in sports.

Research: Find three examples of athletes who have used social media positively. Write down
their names, the platform they used, and a brief description of their positive impact.
● Athlete 1: Marcus Rashford
Digital Platform: Twitter
Description: Marcus Rashford used his Twitter platform to advocate for children's
food security in the UK. He raised awareness about the issue of child hunger and
successfully campaigned to extend free school meals for children during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
● Athlete2: Serena Williams
Digital Platform:Twitter and Instagram
Description: Serena Williams is a powerful advocate for gender equality, education, and

maternal health. She has donated millions to schools in underprivileged areas and has
funded over 50 schools in Kenya, Jamaica, and Uganda through her partnership with Build
Africa. Williams also speaks openly about racial and gender disparities and works with
organizations like UNICEF to improve healthcare for mothers and newborn

● Athlete 3:AI Horford

Digital Platform:Instagram and twitter
Description:Known for being one of the NBA’s most charitable centers, averaging five

assists per game in 2016-2017, Horford is also known for giving back off the court.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, one of the poorest countries in the Western
hemisphere, Horford spent the past summer reconstructing courts in his hometown of
Puerto Plata and putting together youth basketball clinics on the island. Horford’s also
been involved with the charity WildAid to protect African elephants; Basketball Without
Borders, which focuses on youth engagement in developing countries; and the Make-A-Wish
Foundation.

Reflection: In 4-5 sentences, explain why it is important for athletes to be responsible digital
citizens.

Athletes should be good digital citizens because lots of people look up to them. They can use
their platforms to share helpful and positive messages. This inspires others to do good things
and stay kind online. Being responsible shows they care about their fans and their community
