SOCIAL MEDIA SHOULD BE BANNED IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.

The debate for whether social media should be banned in educational institutions or not has

been going on for a long time. Others argue that it should not be banned as it benefits

students. While some, on the other hand understand that banning social media would be

good.

 Theorists such as Lev Vygotsky articulate that social media allows learners to interact

with their peers, exchange opinions, receive swift answers to their questions, as well

as explore different learning approaches and material. Other writers on another hand,

suggest that social media should be banned because it exposes student to explicit

media causing a lot of damage to their mental wellbeing. `

 Social media paves way for Cyber-attackers since it holds a vast amount of

information and authentic data. But some writers point out that there are tight security

measures put on social media to ensure that no sensitive data is stolen.

 While some may say that social media gives students new updates on the world, I on

the other hand state that social media causes a lot of distractions in school. Constant

updates, and notifications disrupt students' attention and focus, leading them to

academic failure.
 Continuous use of social media leads to addiction which takes much time from the

student to study and do assignments, although other researchers suggest that this

statement is not entirely true as addiction depends on the person.

 While others argue that social media helps students and lectures to share documents

and assignments. I, however, believe that social media is more of a tool for plagiarism

when it comes to the issue of sharing content.

 Some argue that social media enhances communication and digital skills for students

but I, nonetheless, state that the usage of social media promotes cyberbullying

amongst students.
