“Ganito Kami Noon… Paano Kayo Ngayon”

1. What is the message that the movie wishes to tell?
 The movie “Ganito Kami Noon… Paano Kayo Ngayon” tells the audience
about the importance of nationalism, cultural identity and fight for social
justice, where one struggles for independence during the Philippine Colonial
Period. It shows how individuals in the movie made sacrifices for social
change and showed willingness to risk their lives in pursuit of freedom. It
serves also as a reminder of how the past shaped our present, that in this
contemporary world there was once sacrifices, values and ideals of earlier
generations that played a great part in history.

2. Why do you think the title is named that way?

 I believe that the movie is named that way because it emphasizes the contrast
in between the past and present situations. It encourages the audience to introspect
or reflect about the historical struggles for freedom that were being faced by the
people specifically during the Spanish era that still continues to resonate
nowadays.

3. Among the different characters, which of them do you stand with in terms of
principles/ideologies? Cite example/s where this happened.
 In terms of principles or ideologies, I stand with Diding (Gloria Diaz). She
represents the struggles of women during that era, wherein women has no
great opportunities given and were seen less in the society. She fought for
feminism in a male-dominated environment. She was able to demonstrate her
strength and undying desire in terms of singing and acting in order for her to
change the kind life she was in. Through her seeking for independence, she
became an embodiment of women empowerment and resilience.
