A Rainbow on my plate!
Can we eat a rainbow? Yes, we can! In fact, we all must eat
it everyday. Are you surprised? I’m not talking about a
rainbow in the sky, though. I am talking about a rainbow on
your plate.
What would a Rainbow Plate have on it?
Quite simply, a Rainbow Plate is a plate that contains a
vibrant mix of colourful fruits and vegetables. No matter
what's on the menu, any meal or snack can become a
Rainbow Plate by simply adding a bit of this or that.
What does a colourful plate mean?
It has been said that the more colours on your plate -- and the
more shades of vegetables and fruits your meal includes - the
more nutrients you're eating. This means that an easy way to make sure that
you're eating a healthy meal is simply to look at how many different colours
your food represents.
Different coloured fruits and vegetables are very good
for our body. They all contain nutrients. Nutrients are
vitamins and minerals that can help us stay healthy and
grow strong. Green foods like broccoli and grapes are
good for our eyes. They also contain calcium which helps
to make our teeth and bones strong. Purple and blue
foods can help our brain. Blueberries, plums, and
eggplant are full of purple power! Apples, red peppers, and raspberries can help
to improve our memory. These red foods also help our heart stay healthy. White
foods like bananas and onions are great for our heart as well. Orange and yellow
foods are good in vitamin C.
