Oceans, Seas And
Marine Sources
Oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface.
Marine ecosystems play a vital part in our
world.
They give the Earth so many new species to
discover.
Oceans help absorb all the excess heat around
our atmosphere
90% of all excess heat is trapped by the
greenhouse gases which are absorbed by the
ocean.
Importance Of Oceans,
Seas And Marine Sources
Biodiversity : The ocean is one of the biggest habitats
for the flora and fauna found underwater.
Climate Regulations/Greenhouse Effect : Oceans
absorb a huge amount of excess heat which is trapped
by the greenhouse gases. This is why oceans are one
of the biggest carbon sinks.
Oxygen Production : Phytoplankton which is found a
lot in the oceans, help produce oxygen through
photosynthesis. They are the “lungs of the Earth.”
Importance Of Oceans,
Seas And Marine Sources
Economy : Oceans help increase the economy a lot as
there are fisheries, tourism, transport, shipping and
also help with off-shore energy resources.
Medicinal Resources : Many substances from marine
organisms can be made into medicine or even used as
treatments.
Water Cycle : Oceans help in precipitation and
evaporation which come under the water cycle and
oceans are vital for the health of many plants.

Plastic, Oil, Chemicals, Fish nets Habitat Destruction :
Habitat gets destroyed unable to support

Climate Change :

Ocean Acidification :
As the ocean gets more acidic, the
number of carbonate ions decrease. As they decrease, the
shells of calcifiers (organisms like shellfish, mussels and coral
that use carbonate ions to make their shells stronger)
become more weak, brittle and deformed.
Coral Bleaching :
Corals turn white and might even break apart
Marine Conservation Strategies
Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)
Sustainable Fishing Practices (Fishing Quotas And Regulations)
Reducing Plastic Pollution
International Agreements (Ex : UNCLOS, Paris Agreement,
Treaty Of The High Seas)
Promoting responsible Aquaculture
Innovations In Plastic Waste Management (Replacing Single-Use Plastics, Using
Nanotechnology For Packaging)
Ways To Protect Oceans, Seas And Marine Sources
Use the 5 R’s ; Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Refuse, Rot
Use your water wisely and conserve it properly by
not wasting it.
Stop using plastic. Other alternatives for plastic
are glass,wood,stainless steel,bamboo etc.
Sustainable use of vehicles to protect climate: use
your cycles/electric vehicles or walk so that it
doesn’t pollute environment and make the
atmosphere warmer and the oceans more acidic.
Ways To Protect Oceans, Seas And Marine Sources
Use energy sources wisely without wasting it.
Don’t overfish so as to avoid extinction.
Overfishing can indirectly influence climate
change
Create awareness so more people can make
better choices for a better tomorrow.

Conclusion
Conservation and sustainable use of ocean, seas, and marine resources
are vital for the well-being of both marine ecosystems and humanity.
Long-term health of these ecosystems can be ensured by
Implementing effective management strategies
Protecting biodiversity-rich areas
Mitigating the effects of climate change
Creating awareness from young age.
Association with NGO :- Positive Changes For Marine Life.
A collaborative global effort is essential to strike a balance between
human activities and the preservation of marine life, enabling us to
coexist peacefully on Earth.
