3.1 Potable Cold-Water Supply

Potable water is connected to each building from site potable water network. Where each
building is provided with sufficient pressure to provide the required flow and pressure at
fixtures.

Minimum pressure is calculated for flow requirements, while maximum pressure is controlled
to <552 kPa static by means of a pressure reducing valve with strainer. According to SBC-
701, clause 1303.13, if pressure at building battery limit is more than 5.5 bar static, then PRV
needs to be installed as an additional feature for construction. The minimum required pressure
at the building’s inlet is calculated and provided in the plumbing calculation report for each
building.

Water meters are considered for monitoring the water consumption in cold water piping
materials as per specifications.

3.1.1 Design Criteria

Design for cold water pipe is based upon the required diversified load for fixtures used
intermittently on the system, otherwise known as the fixture unit method. The weight in fixture
units is tabulated below in accordance with SBC 701, Table E103,3(2).

SBC 701, Table 906.1, but in no case the diameter be less than one-half the diameter of the
drain served or less than 32 mm.

3.6 Rainwater Drainage System

The buildings are provided with a complete rainwater drainage system which collects rainwater
from roof and terrace areas via point roof drains sufficiently sized to avoid water build up at
roof beyond allowable limits. The collected roof discharge is freely discharge at grade level in
a location that does not direct water back towards the building.
The roof outlets are combination of parapet scupper/domed shaped point drain with gravel
guard and secondary (emergency) scupper drain system where the roof perimeter
construction extends above the roof in such a manner that water will be entrapped if the
primary drains allow buildup for any reason. Scuppers have an opening dimension of not less
than 100 mm.
Where the scupper system can’t be used, a combination of roof drain and overflow will be
used. overflow outlet will act as secondary system in case of emergency.
The size of the building storm drains is based on the 100-year hourly rainfall rate determined
from Meteorology and Environmental Protection Administration (MEPA), Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia and based on the maximum projected roof area in accordance with SBC 701, Table
1106.8.
Horizontal roof gutters are sized based on SBC 701, section 1106.6.
The rainfall intensity used for rainwater calculations was based on 100 yearly period over a
retention period of 15 minute. As such, the rainfall intensity is 130 mm per hour as mentioned
in FEED DAR report table 18.17.
