CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
The Department of Education introduces different strands to all students that will help
them acquire knowledge and experiences for their chosen career in college, one of those strands
is ABM or Accountancy Business and Management. It is one of the academic strands offered in
senior high school. The Curriculum of the different specializations of the different strands is
carefully selected and distributed to give quality education to Senior High School students. The
subjects offered are subdivided into three categories namely the core subjects, the applied
subjects, and the specialized subjects. Each subject plays a role in the students. The core subjects
include the general academics wherein it is taken by all the strands. The specialized subjects are
enrichment courses that include the fundamental basics of selected college subjects.
Background of the Study
The researchers aim to focus on ABM Senior High Students as their main respondents.
The focus of the study is to determine the difficulties faced by the students in passing their
specialized subjects. The researchers claim that in the two years of senior high, a lot of factors
may affect the student’s decision-making in what career they will pursue in college. In addition,
also that in choosing a college degree requires a lot of time to think before making final
decisions. It requires depth study to determine its strengths and weaknesses. The success of a
student's learning lies within his/her environmental factors as hypothesized by Williams (1967).
Some factors include the teacher-student relationship. As an ABM student, the goal of the
researchers is to determine the diverse existing problems that affect the performance of students
and the difficulties they are facing in passing their specialized subjects so that as early as
possible the researcher can generate different solutions for the students to aid them in the
challenges they may encounter.
Problem Statement
This study aims to investigate the difficulties faced by ABM students in passing their
specialized subjects at Palo National High School. The study seeks to answer the following
questions.
1. What are the difficulties faced by the ABM students in understanding the lesson?
2. What makes it hard for them to pass the specific specialized subjects
3. How do the respondents deal with the everyday challenges as ABM students

Research Questions
1. Why did you choose the ABM strand?
2. What are the specialized subjects in Accountancy, Business, and Management?
3. Based on your answer to the previous question choose one specialized subject that stressed
you the most? And why?
4. How do you deal with your everyday stress in school?
Scope and Limitations
The research study will focus specifically on Grade 11 ABM students at Palo National
High School located in Palo, Leyte. They will gather data about the various difficulties faced by
ABM students in passing their specialized subjects.
Significance of the Study
The findings of this research study are important in two main ways. First, the current ABM
students will have more information alongside helpful tips from other students that they might use
so they can pass their specialized subjects with ease. Second, the upcoming senior high students
might use this as their guide in choosing the best strand for them that fits their interests so they
will have no regrets as they enter the ABM strand.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
According to a research study found that ABM pupils have trouble learning mathematics.
This study aims to discover the causes of and factors influencing the learning challenges faced
by ABM students in mathematics. It demonstrates the existence of both student and instructor
factors. Students’ pressure towards the topic is a contributing element to why they struggle to
study mathematics. Students may be unable to catch up because the teacher lacks a particular
teaching approach. These elements significantly impact students. They struggle to cope and
comprehend the lessons as a result, and as a result, the kids frequently receive poor grades. One
of the challenges is having trouble managing your time. The teachers will assign several
activities, tasks, and projects. You must be aware of what you should do first and when you
should study. It is not advisable to procrastinate. Avoid wasting your time. Do it now, rather than
delaying it till tomorrow, to eliminate the issue for good. Students find it difficult to make
decisions since they need to dig deeper. For someone to succeed as an entrepreneur, they must be
able to make wise decisions.
7
According to a student who took up the ABM strand, in ABM you will learn a lot of
things, You will be Mathematics friendly, you are free to express everything, you will meet more
friends, you can explore Mathematics, you may learn how to manage a business, you can
improve your business-minded ability, you may know how to be a successful accountant, you
can learn how to effectively manage your management, your efforts are not worthless and most
especially in ABM you will not just be better but you will the best.
Having hard times is just normal for a student. You will encounter many struggles in
studying. Those challenges are just challenging your capacities as a student. While taking the
ABM strand you might have sleepless nights because of the requirements that you need to pass,
you might have headaches because of the mathematical problems that you are repeatedly solving,
and you might think to give up because of the stress that you might feel. You can do something
about that. These sufferings can help you to be a better person, and these can give you learnings
that can help when you enter college.
ABM will teach you a lot of things, including how to be friendly with mathematics, how
to express yourself freely, how to make more friends, how to explore mathematics, how to
manage a business, how to become more business-minded, how to be a successful accountant,
how to manage your management, how to know that your efforts are not in vain, and most
importantly, how to succeed in ABM. Being challenged occasionally is typical for a learner. You
will have a lot of difficulties when studying. These difficulties are merely testing your abilities as
a learner. It was discovered that time management, problem-solving, and schoolwork are the most
challenges for ABM students. This study also showed that students experienced problems because
they were concerned about the subject matter and the lack of information and strategies to address it.
Thus, these challenges have an impact on their study habits. Sometimes the problems serve as
motivation for them to study harder.
Belando (2019) stated that it was found that the difficulties faced by ABM students are time
management, problem-solving, and schoolwork. Furthermore, this study revealed that students
suffered from difficulties caused by anxiety about the subject topics, and a lack of knowledge and
solutions to counteract the problem. Thus, these difficulties affect their study habits. Sometimes they
are motivated to study more to overcome the difficulties.
CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This study will utilize the qualitative type of research specifically Phenomenology which
will present the live experience of every ABM Student.
Research Setting/Locale
This study will describe the place, Palo National High School, Palo, Leyte, where the
subject of the study will be the ABM Senior High Students of Palo National High School.
Research Participants
The researcher will look for Senior High Students who can substantially supply the
needed information and data based on their difficulties in passing their specialized subjects.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher will survey ABM Senior High Students in Palo National High School
with a questionnaire and structured interview.
Data Analysis
The data to be gathered will be analyzed according to the ABM Senior High Students
experiences and difficulties in passing their Specialized Subjects.
