Introduction

YOUR PERCEPTION OF THE WORLD is potentially very lim-

ited. Everything in this Universe is energy, yet we customarily per-
ceive a very narrow band of that energy. Conventional perception is
a weak, low-resolution facsimile of an environment filled with ener-
getic information of a breadth and depth that if shown to you now,
would literally stupify you.
This booklet presents three exercises that will enable you to
see these energetic underpinnings of your physical environment,
an experience commonly known as “aura seeing.” Together we will
embark on this adventure into unknown territory, where you will
discover new ways of experiencing the world, and will be able to
apply your new skills in a host of enlightening and exciting ways.
During the process, you will literally shift into a new personage, and
change in ways that you did not know were possible. But be warned:
the only way you will achieve success with these exercises is if you
actually complete them; only diligent study and practice will prove
fruitful. If you simply read through these pages without making and

you directing them specifically towards their goal.

The Practices
The practices you will be doing are body relaxation, the fourfold
breath, and gazing. First, read through all three and practice them
separately in the order they are presented. Then begin to integrate
them together, first by combining relaxation with the gazing, and
then finally by doing all three simultaneously.
Success in body relaxation will involve a systematic dissipation
of sensory recognition (not input but recognition). You will lose
sense of where you are in space as your tactile sensations and hearing
phase in and out. This will be a profound experience in itself.
The fourfold breath will result in the distinct sensation of an al-
tered state, what I would call an “equilibrated” state. As you progress
with this technique you will snap in and out of this state gaining
an appreciation of how holding one’s breath in equal measure has
powerful effects. Your senses will likewise dissolve, or at least dull, in
the order from least to most strong: taste, smell, touch, hearing and
vision. Additionally you will experience time dilation, your session
may seem much longer or shorter than you would anticipate.
The results of gazing will be described in more detail below;
however, generally we are going to find that our visual field will be-
gin to become more two dimensional and mottled, and will begin
swirling as it transitions from our physical sight to a vision of the
energetic. The energetic will shine through more and more and take
priority as our awareness of physicality shifts away and moves to the
background.

Body Relaxation

relaxation when sleeping. Therefore, you regularly relax to a certain
extent, but until now it was not consciously done. With this practice,
we will make relaxation a conscious process and will be exploring a
much deeper and more penetrating relaxation than what is experi-
enced even during sleep.
Body relaxation will yield many valuable benefits in its own right.
The energy, or chi, in your body will have more area to float through.
There will be fewer impedances, fewer psychic knots, and as a result
you will experience less anxiety, less angst, and less fear. That bears
repeating: achieving body relaxation to a deep level will reduce your
fear and anxiety to a significant degree. This is often overlooked in
many mystical and magical traditions, including many contempo-
rary yoga practices, where relaxation is not given the primacy it de-
serves.
We will be linking our physical relaxation to a conscious thought
process. While reading this right now, you may have the thought that

tween our subconscious and conscious mind around relaxation. Your
conscious mind is giving the command, and your subconscious is re-
sponding. Normally your conscious mind does not have control over
your muscle tone in this way; the subconscious mind is controlling
the relative relaxation or tension of all of the muscles. In this prac-
tice, however, we are shifting the authority from the subconscious to
the conscious mind; the conscious mind is literally grabbing control
from the subconscious mind.
Start wherever you prefer, but a great starting place is the big toe
on your non-dominant side, the side opposite your dominant hand.
This side of the body is more receptive of energy than the dominant
side, which is usually sending energy. Begin by tensing that area and
telling yourself “this is tense.” Then give that area the command to
relax and allow it to relax completely. Use this tension technique as
a reference for your subconscious the first 2 or 3 times you do the
exercise. After that, use the relaxation commands only. Work your
way around the whole body in this way and you will achieve a cer-
tain level of relaxation. Then go around again and you will find the
relaxation going deeper and deeper.
Focusing on the joints can be very beneficial as they are held
together by tendons, ligaments, and muscular tension. As you relax
each joint you will be relaxing multiple groups of muscles that are
using tension to safely cradle that joint. I’ve even found that after a
certain level of relaxation I experience a “popping” sound from the
joint, somewhat analogous to the popping you sense in your joints
when moving out of a chair. This indicates I have sunk very deeply
into relaxation in that joint, though it is much more subtle than the

Four Fold Breathing

WHEN YOU ARE CONCEIVED YOU receive energy from your

father and mother, and carry that energy through until you are born.
Once you are in this world, you get energy though eating, drinking,
and breathing (and later you can glean energy through sex). Of those
three major methods of getting energy, which can you live the least
amount of time without? The breath.
Breathing is the most important source of energy because we are
continuously dependent on it for support. People subtly harm the
effectiveness of their breath throughout the day through tension and
poor posture, putting pressure on the lungs and other organs. That
is why Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Yoga are so brilliant and effective; they
put their primary emphasis on breathing, and reconstruct the ener-
getic pathways in and around your body. Different types of breathing
can create different energetic states, different physical states in the
body.
Most of the time we don’t even realize we are breathing; at most
it is something we are semi-conscious of. But we may nonetheless

which enables us to see energy, or auras.
The concept of “stopping the world” from the teachings of don
Juan Matus via Carlos Casteneda further elucidates this idea. In this
state, we don’t recognize things for just their physical appearance,
i.e. a chair looks so different we wouldn’t know to call it chair. It is in
that moment of not naming, where there is no reference point, that
the auric is perceived, and we perceive the energy of the chair in its
essence. We have relaxed the physical away, including our sensory
array, so we can entrain to that energetic pattern.

Gazing

RELAXATION AND THE FOUR-FOLD BREATH reduce our

connection with our physical body and the physicality of our envi-
ronment, while at the same time keeping us hyper-aware and awake.
I would like to mention here that this “hyper aware and awake” state
although described as “hyper,” is a very balanced state in that you
are acutely aware but are very grounded and stable, producing an
objective and observational attitude. We begin to perceive the ex-
ternal environment differently, mainly because our external world
is a projection of our subconscious mind. In this way, the brain is
a transmitter-receiver that we are reconditioning to be much more
sensitive, like going from AM radio to SiriusXM satellite.
You are living in your subconscious mind right now, experienc-
ing it as a physical reality. All of your perceptions are being pro-
duced by your subconscious. You are already in the place you need to
be, we are just going to change the parameters of the filters through
which you see it.
With these exercises we approach an experience of Unity, going

Joyful Effort
“Unless you become like children, you will never
enter the kingdom of heaven.”-Matthew 18:3

AS MENTIONED IN THE INTRODUCTION, it is important

to undertake this work with an attitude of joyful effort. While com-
pleting these exercises diligently on a daily basis is indeed hard work,
very hard work, that does not mean we have to trudge through them
in misery.
My first experiences in seeing came as a child, alone in the woods.
I would naturally just gaze, as in play, at the trees and plants around
me. I persisted, not because I was trying for a result, but because I
enjoyed the adventure of seeing what would come next. I had the
feeling that if I kept going, something would break through, but I
was still simply at play.
Nature is in a balanced state, there is pressure to survive, grow
and evolve; however, for most of us, survival isn’t as questionable as
it once was. Therefore we must ask: what aspects of yourself do you
want to grow and how do you want to evolve? What are you willing
to sacrifice to achieve this? If your answer is simply to allow things
to unfold on their current habitual course, I could be snarky and say

“how’s that workin’ for ya?” But, that’s just my sense of humor. Ob-
viously if everything was perfect you wouldn’t be reading this, you’d
be lavishly living your life in one way or another. You’re reading this
because you’ve challenged yourself to know if there is anything to
this idea of seeing energy. My advice: make haste slowly. Do these
exercises as if they are not dangerous, or special. Do it as if you are
neutral, with no urgency. At the same time cultivate an attitude of
adventure. Look for it around every corner and you will find it. This
attitude gives you energy, and can make these exercises enjoyable or
even fun.
Anything that is not familiar is dangerous until proven otherwise
by your conscious mind, your psychic sensor. The default setting for
you and your consciousness is to bring you out of the seeing state
until it becomes familiar to you, as known territory. Therefore, we
should play against that tendency and venture toward the unknown
with excitement, with the knowledge that we may retreat to safer
ground when appropriate and under our own control.
One can still be cautious and avoid foolhardiness without re-
moving joy. Let it be an adventure indeed, an excursion into the
energetic unknown. Be more concerned with these energetic as-
pects, rather than focusing on any personal austerity or asceticism.
We are trying here to bring a balance between the energetic and the
physical. We needn’t be a hermit living in a cardboard box with no
possessions to be spiritual. Enjoy your adventures in both worlds as
we seek to unite them.
Eventually as you are able to shift your attention into these other
energetic places more intentionally, you will learn to blend it with
your natural waking world. How you blend it with your normal day,
will eventually be up to you. The ideal is to be able to operate on high
level in both places. And finally there will be no difference between
the two, not just intellectually, but on an experiential level.
