Comments and Suggestions by Doctoral Committee Members:


The candidate made a presentation on his research area. The committee raised various issues and
after discussion, the members expressed satisfaction about the preparatory work of the research scholar in
the area of “ANN Control of PV Integrated Shunt Active Power Filter for EV Charging
Applications”. The candidate proposed three compulsory courses and three courses under Regular
research course required for his research with syllabus and discussed by the committee in support of his
research. These courses will be registered Fall 2024 semester and Winter 2025 semester. The committee
members approved the course work to support the candidature in his research. The committee members
suggested to improve the fundamentals in the selected domain and enhance his research.

ABOUT THE COURSE:


This course is a design oriented course aimed at photovoltaic system design. The course begins by discussing about the PV cell electrical
characteristics and interconnections. Estimation of insolation and PV sizing is addressed in some detail. Maximum power point tracking and
circuits related to it are discussed. Later, applications related to peltier refrigeration, water pumping, grid connection and micro grids are
discussed in detail. Lastly a brief discussion on life cycle costing is also discussed in order to bring in a measure of completeness to the
course.

Prof. L Umanand
IISc Bangalore
L. Umanand is a faculty at the Department of Electronics System Engineering (DESE) of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has been
teaching, guiding and consulting in power electronic converters for more than two decades. His area of research are in power conversion,
renewable energy systems and modelling.

Course certificate

The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in
person at any of the designated exam centres.
The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 27 October 2024 Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.
Registration url: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam
registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE

Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course.
Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100

Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. If one
of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.

Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IISc Bangalore
.It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc (http://nptel.ac.in/noc).

Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
