The whole world is going to celebrate the New Year, but not at the same time. Different
countries have different dates and times. It's a bit like time travel!
Sydney, Australia
The celebrations start in Sydney at 6 p.m. local time on December 31st with a big firework
display. The fireworks are over the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Thousands of people
watch the display from boats on the harbour.
Beijing, China
In China, this is the Year of the Dragon. People decorate their houses with red lanterns and
lights. They also give each other special red envelopes with money inside. There is a big party
in Beijing's Tiananmen Square. At midnight there are huge firework displays all over the city.
Moscow, Russia
Russians celebrate the New Year with a big feast. They eat lots of food and drink a lot of vodka!
