When I was a child, I always waited for Independence Day. My father used to ask me to watch a parade together. We
saw it from our front yard. I remember how attractive the parade was. In the first line of the parade, I saw the people
dressed up uniquely. Some people wore Indonesian heroes’ costumes. Some others dressed like local ghosts. They were
scary but they were funny, too. Next, I remembered that a lot of people marched in the second line. They waved a mini
Indonesian lag. They walked around the village and sang the ‘Hari Merdeka’ song. Their singing was accompanied by
traditional instruments like angklung, suling, and rebana. At last, I also saw that many children rode their bicycles in the
parade. They decorated their bicycles creatively. I always wanted to join the parade but I was too shy. Luckily, I have the
chance to join a parade at my school next week. I am really looking forward to it.

The story of Kancil and Tiger
Kancil, the clever mouse deer, was known throughout the jungle for his quick wit and even quicker feet. He was
a master of trickery, always finding ways to outsmart his enemies, especially the fearsome Tiger. One day, Tiger
was prowling through the forest, his stomach rumbling with hunger. He spotted Kancil, hopping merrily along a
path, and his eyes lit up with predatory glee.
"Well, well, if it isn't little Kancil Tiger growled, his voice like thunder. "What are you doing out here all alone?"
Kancil, sensing danger, feigned innocence. "Oh, Tiger, I'm just on my way to visit my grandmother. She's quite ill,
you see."
Tiger, ever the gullible brute, believed Kancil's story. "Your grandmother? Where does she
live?" he asked, his mouth watering at the thought of a delicious mouse deer dinner "She lives on the other side
of the river, Kancil replied, pointing to a wide, rushing river. "But there's a problem. The river is overflowing, and
I can't swim across."
Tiger, eager to get his paws on Kancil, offered a solution. "Don't worry, little one," he said.
"I'll carry you across on my back
Kancil, secretly delighted, agreed. He hopped onto Tiger's back, and the mighty beast
waded into the river. As they reached the middle, Kancil suddenly cried out, "Oh, Tiger! You're getting wet! I'm
afraid I might make your fur dirty."
Tiger, oblivious to Kancil's trickery, stopped in his tracks. "What should we do?" he asked, his voice laced with
panic.
"I have an idea, Kancil said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. If you could just hold your breath for a moment, I'll
quickly tie a rope around your tail. That way, I can pull you to the other side
Tiger, trusting Kancil completely, agreed. He held his breath, and Kancil quickly tied a rope around his tail. Then,
with a mischievous grin, Kancil jumped off Tiger's back and ran to the
riverbank "Hold on tight, Tiger he called out, as he pulled the rope with all his might. Tiger,
struggling to stay afloat, was dragged along the river current. He was furious, but he couldn't do anything about
it. Kancil, laughing gleefully, watched as Tiger was swept away, his plans for a delicious meal thwarted once
again.
