Compact arc-resistant switchgear
Compact switchgear is an ideal solution for
applications at elevations above 1000m,
installation locations with limited accessibility,
in areas where arc flash safety poses significant
risk to personnel, and continuous process
facilities that cannot tolerate downtime.

4 EATON Medium-voltage switchgear and assemblies

Unitized Power Centers (UPC)
Unitized power centers are self-contained
metal-enclosed unit substations. A UPC
contains a primary MV switch, step-down
transformer, and a low voltage distribution
switchboard in a pre-assembled solution.
Ideal in applications where equipment size,
accessibility, maintainability, and ease of
installation are valued.

• Switch Voltage class: 5 kV to 15 kV

• Transformers: 112.5 kVA to 1000 kVA
• Switchboard: up to 480 V and 2500 A
• Indoor and outdoor applications

What does your application need?
Eaton’s medium-voltage switchgear solutions have optional
accessories and capabilities to support your unique applications.

OHMIC VOLTAGE SENSING (OVS)

Ohmic voltage sensing (OVS) for Eaton’s medium-voltage metal-clad
switchgear and load interrupter switchgear increases reliability over
traditional core and coil voltage transformers (VTs) while saving
significant space. By utilizing resistive voltage dividers (RVDs) in
place of conventional VTs, Eaton has developed a modern approach
to safely mitigate primary switching transients and resonance
problems for applications requiring VTs.
OVS can safely mitigate primary switching transients and resonance
problems for devices monitoring voltage in protective relaying and
metering applications for medium-voltage switchgear.
Features and Benefits:
• Improved reliability: not susceptible to ferroresonance and
switching transients
• No primary fuses are required
• May reduce switchgear footprint
• Can be retrofit into existing installations

INTEGRAL MOTORIZED REMOTE RACKING (MR2)

MR2 increases safety by allowing operators to
remotely open and close breakers and rack in and out
VCP-W breakers and auxiliary drawers in switchgear.
Features and Benefits:
• Removes operator from arc flash zone during
racking of breakers and auxiliary drawers
• Operator can rack the breaker between “Connect”,
“Test”, and “Disconnect”
• Can be retrofit into existing installations
• The breaker and auxiliary drawers can be operated
utilizing the MR2 handheld pendant, or through
modbus, Ethernet, or programmable logic controller
(PLC) from a control room, with an HMI or
integrated into your system control network

CONTINUOUS THERMAL MONITORING (CTM)

Thermal sensors offer real-time monitoring to detect
hot spots on critical connections and potential electrical
hazard before it occurs.
Features and Benefits:
• Sensors gather real time data that can be
used for analytics and trending
• Allows for remote monitoring
• Can be used in combination with IR windows
• Data can be integrated to SCADA system for monitoring
