Grade 7 | Unit 3 | Lesson 6 | Night pgs. 47-58, “…yes for all eternity.
”
READING TASK
Reading: Night, pgs. 47-58 (stop at “…yes for all eternity.”)
Guiding TDQ: Explain how being in Auschwitz impacts characters, and what characters’ behavior reveals
about human nature.
CCSS Aligned Standard: Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over
the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
WHAT THIS LESSON WILL ACHIEVE
Big Ideas: Explain how being in Auschwitz impacts characters, and what characters’ behavior reveals about
human nature.
Notes for the teacher:
On page 48, Wiesel writes that "homosexuals" (which is generally considered an outdated/offensive term for members
of the LGBT community) trafficked children in the camps. Be mindful that this passage perpetuates a harmful and false
stereotype that many queer people are child molesters. Students should understand that these men abused children
not because they were gay, but because they were monstrously cruel.

1. What lesson does Eliezer learn from the incident with his boots on pg. 48?

c. Sometimes your enemy may actually have your best interest in mind.
d. Take advantage of opportunities, because you don’t know what the future might hold.

LESSON PART READING MODALITY, READING TASK, AND KEY QUESTIONS
