Workplace Diversity
There is much fuss about Workplace Diversity and Workplace inclusion in the Corporate World. This is a hot topic
and organizations want to employ different techniques and mechanisms that fit the need. With the realization of how
important the diverse workforce could be, the organizations are ready to invest in order to build in an environment
that offers the real platform for employees to excel and perform.
The unique perspective of diversity is to associate every individual as a separate entity and to accept that people
have differences among them. This is the root from where all branches spread and dominate the direction of the
Corporate World. This is the base concept from where the realization comes for accepting and recognizing every
individual irrespective of sex and age differences, religion or region differences, social or cultural differences, and
even belief or principle differences. Diversity is a truth simply created by individuals and classes from a wide range of
these differences. Having employees with a broad range of attributes and work experiences is the scope of a
company providing a diverse work environment.
Why should an organization employ diversity in the workplace is because there is a direct connection between
diversity and company success. In relation to employing diversity and inclusion at the workplace some other factors
also need to be undermined as well such as Equity, Equality, Unconscious Bias and Corporate Social Responsibility.
The right way to employ workplace diversity is to create a culture of workplace inclusion where employees feel
comfortable and respectable. An inclusive environment will be more appropriate for employee engagement and
optimum productivity. They should be scaled on basis of equity as compared to equality. Equality treats every
individual with the same eye irrespective of their needs. It is not justified to provide the same meal to all having
known the eating pattern due to different religious or demographic backgrounds. In contrast, equity provides
everyone an atmosphere and an environment to do things as per their choice. It justifies individual needs and offers
the same performing platform to all.
Hiring on basis of the same or alike interests, experiences, personal wishes, and beliefs instead of excellence,
caliber, quality, and merit is due to an Unconscious Bias which must be prevented and defeated. The employee
performance and retentivity is the most important factor.
The business at some appropriate stage must contribute towards society. This can be achieved through initiating a
CSR program. Corporate Social Responsibility is a built-in business model by which a company attempts to operate
in such a way to create positive deeds towards society minimizing negative impact. Loyalty and accountability to
customers, a social initiative for improvement of the community, employee engagement programs, Charity, initiative
for tree plantation, and environment-friendly products or packaging are all factors that raise and enhance company
and brand image. Nowadays, companies are also rated on the grounds of how they manage their employees, their
customers and, their impression on social issues. CSR is valuable for both company and employees; it acts as a
bridge between them. Employees feel engaged by participating in company programs towards the community.
In conclusion, the workplace diversity with inclusion and equity along with CSR alignment boost the employee overall
performance and deliver the optimum result for the company.
