LARONG PINOY

Tumbang Preso - Filipino youngsters love playing Tumbang Preso, a distinctive

traditional game from the Philippines. Tumba, which means “to fall,” and preso, which
means “prisoner,” are the Filipino terms from which this sport gets its name. Together,
they mean “fallenprisoner.” Backyards, streets, and open spaces are the venues for the
game. It takes cues from Dodgeball and Tag to help players develop their agility and
strategic thinking.

Luksong Baka - is a traditional Filipino game from Bulacan where players take turns
jumping over another player in a bent position called “baka” or cow. The goal is to jump
over the cow without touching them. A player loses their turn if they hit the cow, and
then take their place. It involves strengthening, flexibility, and social development for
children.

Luksong Tinik - is a traditional Philippine game that was created in 1973. It involves
teams taking turns jumping over parts of the opposing team's bodies. The game
promotes health, as it requires physical activity and builds camaraderie. To play, teams
take turns jumping over the piled hands of the opposing team. If a jumper hits the
hands, their mother must successfully jump to make up for the error. Studying traditional
games like Luksong Tinik helps preserve Philippine cultural values and history.
Patintero - is a popular outdoor game played in the Philippines with established rules.
Teams are divided into runners and taggers, with the objective of the runners being to
score points by passing lines without being tagged by the opposing taggers. The
mechanics of the game involve runners attempting to cross 4 lines while evading the
taggers standing at each line, with points scored for fully crossing the 4th line and
calling out "Tubig!". Whichever team accumulates the most points after set numbers of
turnovers is declared the winner.

Langit-Lupa - is a traditional Filipino game where players gather in a circle and one
player chants a rhyme while pointing at each player. When the chant ends, the pointed
player is “it”. The “it” chases the other players to tag them while players can climb onto
elevated spaces like stairs or tables to be safe from tagging. Different rules govern how
long players are safe in elevated spaces before having to come down. The game ends
when players tire out or are called for supper.
