2. Suppose 𝑈 = {(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑥 + 𝑦, 𝑥 − 𝑦, 2𝑥) ∈ ℝ5 : 𝑥, 𝑦 ∈ ℝ}. Find a subspace 𝑊 CO2
of ℝ5 such that ℝ5 = 𝑈 ⊕ 𝑊.
3. Consider the bases 𝐵 = {𝑢1 , 𝑢2 , 𝑢3 } and 𝐵 ′ = {𝑢1′ , 𝑢2′ , 𝑢3′ } for ℝ3 , where CO3

4. Let 𝑉 = 𝐶[𝑎, 𝑏] be the vector space of continuous functions on [𝑎, 𝑏], and CO3

with appropriate arguments.
6. Find an isomorphism between CO3
a) the vector space of all polynomials of degree at most three such that
𝑝(0) = 0 and ℝ3 .
b) the vector spaces, span{1, sin 𝑥 , cos 𝑥} and ℝ3 .
Justify your answer with suitable arguments.
