4 MARK : (Case Study)
H (2, 4) B (5, 8) S (13, 14) O (13, 26)
House Bank School Office

i) Distance between House and Bank = ( x2 − x1 )2 + ( y 2 − y1 )2

= (5 − 2)2 + (8 − 4)2

= 32 + 4 2 = 9 + 16 = 25 = 5units

ii) Distance between Daughter’s school and Bank = ( x1 − x2 )2 + ( y1 − y2 )2

= (13 − 5)2 + (14 − 8)2

= 82 + 6 2

= 64 + 36 = 100 = 10 units

iii) (a) Distance between House and Bank = (5 − 2)2 + (8 − 4)2

= 9 + 16 = 25 = 5

Distance between Bank and School = (13 − 5)2 + (14 − 8)2

= 82 + 6 2

= 64 + 36 = 110 = 10 units

Distance between school and office = (13 − 13)2 + (26 − 14)2

= 0 + 12 2
= 12
So, Total disatnce travelled by Aditya to reach the office = 5 + 10 + 12 = 27 units
(OR)

(b) Distance between House and Office = (13 − 2)2 + (26 − 4)2

= 112 + 222

= 121 + 484

= 605
= 24.6 units
So, extra distance travelled by Aditya = 27 – 24.6
= 2.4 units

2. Given : Two centric circles with centre “O”. AB is the chord of larger circle and which touches the
smaller circle at “C”.

A C B

To Prove : AC = BC
Proof : We know that, radius is perpendicular to tangent at the point of contact
So, OC ⊥ AB [3 OC is radius and AB istangent to the circle]
Now
⊥ ar drawn from centre to the chord will bisect the chord.
So, OC will bisect AB at C.
Hence AC = BC
Hence Proved.
