ATL Kit Installation Instructions

ATL KIT - PART NO. 80888

The following instructions are for the majority of vehicles in use today. If installing on ‘86 and earlier Nissan
(Datsun), Toyota pickups or Dodge D-50 (Mitsubishi) pickups, refer to “Special Instructions”.

1. Mount the Lights (1 & 2) to the light brackets using supplied hardware. NOTE: After installation is complete, they must be aimed so
as to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108.

2. Route the Wire Harness (3) from the switch bracket on the dashboard to the front of the truck, ending in a convenient location for
plugging in the lights (1 & 2). This is generally behind the grill and in front of the radiator. If the vehicle has no holes in the radiator sup-
port structure, the harness legs can be routed down each side of the radiator and then brought back up behind the grill. If necessary,
drill a hole in the firewall for the Harness (3) and protect it with the grommet.

CAUTION: It is important that the harness, all wires from the light switch and all other electrical wires be routed around hot or mov-
ing engine parts, and any sharp sheet metal. Protection must be provided to guard against wire damage at these points. All excess
or loose wire must be neatly secured using wire ties.

3. Install Light Switch (4). Plug in wires from wire harness as shown in Figure 1. The toggle switch doesn’t have a top or bottom (the
installer chooses) but make sure the Pink, Blue, Red are in that order on one side and the Brown, White, Green are in that order on
the other side of the switch

4. Starting at the vehicle driver side, find where the high beam wire exits the dash board and trace it until it “Y’s” over to the passen-
ger side. Between the “Y” and the dash board, physically cut the high beam wire in half. Starting with the high beam wire attached to
the headlamp splice the Pink wire from our harness. The high beam wire going back into the dash board, splice the Blue wire from
our harness.
Starting at the vehicle driver side again, find where the low beam wire exits the dash board and trace it until it “Y’s” over to the pas-
senger side. Between the “Y” and the dash board, physically cut the low beam wire in half. Starting with the low beam wire attached
to the headlamp splice the Brown wire from our harness. The low beam wire going back into the dash board, splice the White wire
from our harness. You must physically cut the original power to the vehicle headlamps and splice our harness as stated above. The
toggle switch will then switch between the vehicle headlamps and the snowplow lamps...you would never want all four lamps on
together.

5. Attach eyelets of the two white wires to a good, clean chassis ground.

6. Locate the vehicle’s marker light wire and right and left turn signal wires. Using tap connectors, connect these wires as shown in
Figure 1. (No special test light procedure is needed for markers and turn signals.)

a. The two Yellow wires are spliced into the turn signal circuit on both sides of the vehicle.

b. The Black wire(s) are spliced into the marker light circuit on on both sides for the 80888.

7. Verify that installation is correct by switching from high beam to low beam on both vehicle and snow
plow lights. At any one time, only the snow plow or vehicle lights should be on - NEVER both sets at
once. Tape all connections or use a dielectric compound, like Truck-Lite NYK-77, to prevent corrosion.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. On ‘86 and earlier Nissan (Datsun) and all Toyota pickups, a test light does notindicate the proper wires when used in the normal
manner. To locate high beam and low beam wires on these vehicles, connect the clip lead of the test light to the positive (+) terminal
of the battery and then probe the wires. Make your connections as shown in Figure 1. The eyelets are cut off the white wires and
attached as follows:

1981-1986 NISSAN (DATSUN) PICKUP (4X4)

Driver’s Side Passenger Side
Connect the white wire to: Red/Blue Stripe Red/Black Stripe

1979 & LATER TOYOTA PICKUP (4X4)

Driver’s Side Passenger Side
Connect the white wire to: Red/White Stripe Red/Black Stripe

2. Dodge D-50 and Mitsubishi vehicles with four headlights require the addition of a special relay. Vehicles with two headlights are
not affected. Using a test light in the normal way, locate the vehicle’s low beam wire, cut it and connect the two wires from the snow
plow light harness as shown in Figure 1. Now connect the clip lead of the test light to the positive (+) terminal of the battery and
probe for the high beam wire. Cut this wire and connect the two wires from the snow plow light harness as shown in Figure 1. Install
relay and special jumper wires as shown in Figure 2. Attach eyelets of two white wires to a good chassis ground:
