A LEGEND WHO NAMED THE NIGHTINGALE

Sarojini Naidu was one of the best influenced freedom fighter and poet. Grew up
from a little girl to the first woman who honored as the first woman president of
Indian national congress which was the only party in India and fought strongly
against British machine guns. Sarojini Naidu also became the first woman state
governor of democratic India (after independence) in Uttar Pradesh and she
participated Dandi march with the great leader Gandhiji. She worked hard for an
India which was all Indians were dreaming as the birthdate of Sarojini celebrated
as National Women day of India.
Born on 1879 march 13th as daughter of Dr.Aghorenath and Varatha Sunthari who
were changed their accommodation from Bengal to Hyderabad due to social
force. Sarojini grew up as a brilliant girl and educated from Madras and London.
She was a best student throughout her study time and showed her brilliancy in
poem writing. She tried to share her glorious ideas through her effective lines of
the poem in Madras and London.
She passed matriculation with first rank. She was also a member of the loyal
literacy society and achieved little more doctorates from various universities. She
married a non-brahman named Govinda Rajmor Naidu on 1898. It was impossible
to marry a non-brahman at that time.
She was the first women politician who supported Gandhiji at Rowlett act. She
had an indispensable participant in non-corporation movement, law rejection
movement and Quit India. She honored as the president of INC in an annual
conference of Indian nation congress on 1925. During 1928-1929 when she was in
America tried to orient the U.S society about nationalism. She fought for social
reformation and women rights especially the right to vote for women.
On 1930, Gandhiji decided to participate only men in Dandi march. But Sarojini
forced him to change his decision. hence, he allowed women too. She was very
good at spreading nationalism throughout the nation with her poetic line during
freedom fights.
When Gandhiji arrested after his decision to possess the salt godown through
non-violent movement at Darshana, Sarojini encourage Indian people and led
them in Darshana march. She named as the Indian cuckoo by Gandhiji considering
her writings. She also named as devotee of poem and popular one-the nightingale
of India.
Most of her early writings were published in Indian ladies’ magazines and her first
poetry anthology was The Golden Threshold. Other publications are Bird of The
Time and The Broken Wing. Her complete poetry anthology published as Rajakiya
Murali.
