INTRODUCTION TO THE ORGANIZATION:
The Delhivery Limited is India’s leading supply chain service provider for the domestic as
well as the international regions. The inception of Delhivery Limited was done in May 2011, by
Sahil Barua, Mohit Tandon, Bhavesh Manglani, Suraj Saharan and Kapil Bharati. The
headquarters being in Gurugram, India. It was initially started as a hyperlocal express delivery
service provider in the city of Gurugram, India. This hyper-local delivery service was for the local
offline stores, delivering the flowers and food locally. In this era the e-commerce was not much
developed in India, however, looking at the rapid expansion and growth prospects of the E-
commerce industry in India, the founders thought to focus on the segment of the E-commerce
Industry. In just few months, by August 2011, the company and the founders completely focused
on the E-commerce industry and received their first client, Urban Touch, a beauty, and online
fashion retailer.
By the later August 2011, the company started providing the logistics services to the clients.
The company is also trying its fate in major technological innovations, trying to lead in the industry
with world class service and cutting-edge technology. Since, the inception of the organization the
team has successfully fulfilled over a billion orders across the boundaries of India. Also, Delhivery
has built a nationwide network of several facilities serving over 17000 pin-codes making possible
with 21 automated centers, 122 gateways, 93 fulfillment centers, 2521 direct delivery centers and
over 86000 employees working as a single team, to make this possible.
Delhivery became unicorn in 2019 when it raised $413 million in a series F round, which
was led by SoftBank Vision Fund, Carlyle Group, and Fosun International. The company was then
valued at $1.5billion. Currently Delhivery Pvt Ltd, is valued at more than $4.77 billion dollars. At
present the revenue of the company is about $479.06 million in FY21.
The Delhivery company has backing of Times Internet Ltd, which had also acquired a
minority stake in Delhivery in June 2021.
India’s logistics industry is worth around $160 billion and is likely to grow at a CAGR of
10% to $215 billion in just next two years. As prior to the implementation of GST the logistics
industry was majorly unorganized and highly manipulative, from the arrival of Delhivery into the
market the logistics industry is becoming highly organized. Also, the technological advancements
the company had made, is becoming the strong pillar for other competitors and other players to
learn from this company.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the Project are:
To improve the hub productivity
Find Bottlenecks of the operations
Optimize flow of materials
Measure, Analyze, Improve, and control the factors responsible for low productivity
NEED AND SCOPE OF THE STUDY:
Need and Scope of the study:
- Need – Although the hub productivity was going good at 2800/day, with comparison to
other facilities in pan India level the performance was just above average. So, the need was
to observe the daily operations, and understanding the deviations from the path of achieving
the targeted productivity.
- Scope – The scope of the study was decided to be the local facility, Hub, at Hyderabad.
However, due to some issues being addressed at pan India level, the scope further increased
to several other facilities.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
First Mile (FM) Process Overview:
1. Customer Pickups (CP’s):
This involves the collection of packages from individual customers or sellers at various
locations. These pickups can include items sold on e-commerce platforms or business partners.
2. Warehouse Pickups:
Collection of packages from warehouses where goods are stored before the transportation
process begins.
3. Fresh Pickups:
Specific pickups for perishable goods or time-sensitive items, such as fresh produce or other
commodities requiring rapid delivery.
4. Retail Pickups:
Collection of packages from retail outlets, which could include products sold in physical stores.
5. Business Partners (BP):
Collaboration with business partners for the collection of packages. This could involve third-
party vendors or other
Midmile Process Overview:
1. Inbound:
Inter City, Inter State, Intra State - National, International - RCV (Receive):
Inbound shipments are received from various sources, including within the same city, across
different states, or from international locations. This involves the initial receiving and
verification of incoming goods.
2. Outbound:
The outbound process in logistics involves the efficient movement of goods from a distribution
center or warehouse to their respective destinations. Here's an explanation of key elements in
the outbound process with a focus on specific aspects such as vehicle planning, continuous

connection vehicles, load preparation teamwork, priority, FIFO, ad-hoc requests, and TAT for
depart (Turnaround Time for Departure):
LM (Last Mile) Process Overview:
1. SC & DCs (Service Centers and Distribution Centers):
Lot Matching:
Lot matching involves grouping shipments or items that share similar characteristics or
destinations.
Time-slot Booking:
Time-slot booking allows customers to schedule a specific time for the delivery of their
packages.
Partial Delivery:
Partial delivery refers to delivering a portion of the total shipment, usually when all items are
not available for delivery at the same time.
Space Clearance:
Space clearance involves ensuring that the delivery vehicle has enough space to accommodate
all scheduled packages.
Operational Constraints for Mapped Area - Served Pin-codes / Out of Area:
Operational constraints refer to limitations or challenges in the delivery process within a
mapped area.
Dispatch on Confirmation:
Dispatching shipments occurs once confirmation is received, indicating that the packages are
ready for delivery.
Vehicle Planning Based on Volume:
Vehicle planning involves determining the appropriate type and size of vehicles based on the
volume of scheduled deliveries.
Regular Dispatches:
Regular dispatches involve consistent and scheduled deliveries to specified locations.
4
Cash / POD Collection:
Cash or Proof of Delivery (POD) collection involves collecting payment or confirming the
delivery through POD acknowledgment.
POD Connection Document Uploadation:
POD connection involves uploading proof of delivery documents to the system.
2. Reverse Pickups:
Shipment Verification:
Shipment verification ensures that the items being picked up during the reverse pickup match
the details in the system.
Weight Capture:
Weight capture involves measuring and recording the weight of items during the reverse
pickup.
Transit Movement - LM for Reverse Pickups:
Transit movement during reverse pickups involves transporting the items back to the
distribution center or designated location.
CPs - B2C and RPCs and SC:
CPs (Customer Pickups): Involves picking up items directly from customers.
B2C (Business-to-Consumer): Involves reverse pickups from individual consumers.
RPCs (Reverse Pickup Centers): Dedicated centers for handling reverse pickups.
SC (Service Centers): Service centers may also be involved in the reverse pickup process.

Expected Contribution:
In this project I have worked on the improving the Hub productivity. The productivity is
calculated by Kgs processed/men/day. There were several observations made by me to the top
management, upon which they have acted on those issues and solved them. Overall, there were
positive effects seen in the daily operations of the facility. The productivity has increased from
2800 to around 3000.
The management also got fruitful results because of the GPS locks. When I have taken the
issue to their notice, we have analyzed the situation which are causing the issue, and the
repercussions of these. All put together the resultant analysis was to change the SOP the way it
can reduce the time while locking the GPS Lock and then using the app unlocking it in destination
center.
The layout of the hub was changed in recent times because of my inputs. In the facility
each destination center has 20 boxes 14 small boxes for pallets on one row and 6 big boxes in
another row. The idea is to place pallets on one side and bins on another side. However, the bins
are removed in recent times as they are obsolete and roller cages with wheels are the new normal.
These are changed but the layout remained the same, which caused the prime issue of the shipments
being put in another space ID or put somewhere else. This was causing huge issue while loading the
vehicle.
Although some of the issues were sorted out with ease, other processes required sincere
efforts in addressing the issues and controlling the processes even after streamlining the activities.
This analysis was done by me with the involvement of the senior management and other process
engineering team members.
6
Job Profile During Project:
I am working as a “Manager” under the reporting of Senior Manager of the facility. The work I
was given was:
To understand the processes of the facility in detail,
Study all the processes like unloading, put, pick, audit, sort, automatic sorting machines,
information flow, material flow, people flow, vehicle hitting pattern, loading, value
added/non-value-added activities performed by the men.
Time motion study to all the processes required for the study.
The area of the project is Line Haul operations and gateway operations including, (Dock
{Loading/Unloading}, Floor {Sort, Put, Pick, Audit}).
