Report:
Our class performed an experiment about basil plant growth. The main reason we conducted this experiment was to determine whether or not water affects the growth of basil plants. Like all other experiments, we used the scientific method, which consists of a question, information gathering, hypothesis, procedures, materials, experimentation, analyze results, and a conclusion. At the beginning of the experiment, my hypothesis was that water would affect the growth of plants. Afterwards, I learned that water is the source of hydrogen and oxygen molecules that are necessary to make glucose (plant food). After the two bags experiment (which is where you put three seeds in each bag one with a paper towel inside that was damp and the other dry), we replanted the seeds/sprouts in a cup with some miracle grow soil. My hypothesis for what will happen to the growth of the seeds when you put them in the cup was the plants would grow faster and larger now that they have soil to anchor their roots in. Everyday we had to take measurements and observe what we saw. Our procedures were to measure each plants height, note any changes that you saw in its appearance, carefully water plant, and then enter plant height into a graph. Lastly, the height of my tallest plant is about 4.5 cm to 5 cm. The growth of my plants increased when I put them in a cup, so they had more room to grow. The range of my plant growth is about 1 cm to 2 cm.
Hypothesis:
I predict water will affect my basil plants by greatly increasing their growth rate.
Procedures:
1. Take down measurements of plant height. 2. Record any changes or comments about the plants appearance 3. Carefully water plant. (dont water it to often) 4. Enter measurements of plant height in line graph
Errors or Variables Which Could Have Affected the Outcome of the Experiment:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. The cup was knocked over several times during our trip. The basil plant was in a dark during our flight. The cup cracked causing soil and water to leak. The basil plants had less sunlight while in Nebraska than Florida. The plant was exposed to some cold temperatures while in Nebraska. During the experiment, the basil plant was neglected for a short time.

Conclusion
Water does affect plants because it is essential to the survival of the plant. The plant obtains water by using its roots far under the ground to send water up into the plant through a vein called the xylem. Also, water is the plants source of hydrogen and oxygen molecules that is necessary to produce glucose or plant food.
