done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. For thou
hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge
from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a
storm against the wall.
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon
the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine
increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with
new wine.
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his
correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he
delighteth.
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain
thereof than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not
to be compared unto her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one
that retaineth her.
19 The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established
the heavens.
20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and
thy sleep shall be sweet.
25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it
cometh.
26 For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine
hand to do it.
28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when
thou hast it by thee.
29 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
32 For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the
righteous.
33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the
habitation of the just.
34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy
glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of
thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars,
which thou hast ordained;
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest
him?
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with
glory and honour.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all
things under his feet:
7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the
paths of the seas.
9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to
rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
3 O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive,
that I should not go down to the pit.
4 Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his
holiness.
5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure
for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
7 Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide
thy face, and I was troubled.
9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust
praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.
11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my
sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my
God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength,
wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be
moved.
3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the
floods lift up their waves.
4 The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty
waves of the sea.
5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he
whom the father chasteneth not?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for
our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of
the way; but let it rather be healed.
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the
Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of
bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of
meat sold his birthright.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he
was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully
with tears.
18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with
fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard
intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast
touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the
heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in
heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling,
that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the Lord
hath not defied?
O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the
midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph
over me.
3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress
without cause.
5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee
do I wait all the day.
6 Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been
ever of old.
7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy
remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O Lord.
8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and
his testimonies.
11 For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.
12 What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he
shall choose.
13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.
14 The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his
covenant.
15 Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.
16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.
18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
19 Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.
20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in
thee.
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent
to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands
toward thy holy oracle.
3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak
peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.
4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their
endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.
5 Because they regard not the works of the Lord, nor the operation of his hands, he
shall destroy them, and not build them up.
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped:
therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
8 The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.
9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up
for ever.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever and ever. Amen.
