Part 2
How do the events in US History influence Poe’s writing? Answer should be in paragraph
format with a minimum of 6 sentences.
Edgar Poe’s writing was shaped by the darker events in early America. The country was growing fast,
and there were tensions between the North and South. This created a sense of fear, which Poe
reflected in his dark stories. Poe also faced money problems, like many people in that time, and wrote
about despair and sadness. The interest in emotions and the supernatural, which was popular then,
influenced his focus on death and mystery. Overall, Poe was a sad-boy because America was a
sad-boy.
