III. Learning Activities / Procedure

Teachers Activities Students Activities

A. Introductory Activities

1. Routine Activities
a. Kindly stand up for our prayer
One student leads the prayer
while the rest participate
respectfully.

a. Greetings “Good morning, teacher Nathaniel! We’re fine,

“Good morning, class! How are you thank you
today?”

2. Review

Okay class “What is a subject? from our

last lesson that we topic already Can respond by recalling the previous lesson ( “A
someone explain what is a subject?” subject is the doer of the action.”)

That's a good idea, Therefore I conclude

that we master that lesson, so we must
dive in into another lesson that we topic for
today. Our new lesson for this morning is
the Subject-Verb Agreement.

3. Motivation

Show humorous sentences with errors in

subject-verb agreement (e.g., The dog
bark loudly.).
The students analyze what is wrong with the
“Does this sound correct? Why?”
sentences
Ow so your confused class later I discuss

to you what is wrong about that sentence

B. Developmental Activity

1. Presentation

Define subject-verb agreement

“Subject-Verb Agreement the

grammatical rule that requires the verb
in a sentence to match the number and
person of its subject”

Show examples: She walks; They walk

2. Discussion Learner 1: raises his/her hand confidently.

“Good day, class! Today, we’re “It’s when the subject and the verb in a sentence
going to dive into the rules of match in number, like singular or plural.”
subject-verb agreement. This is
crucial for constructing
grammatically correct sentences.

Can anyone tell me what subject-

verb agreement means?”

“Excellent, That’s correct. The

subject tells us who or what the
sentence is about, and the verb tells
us what the subject is doing. If the
subject is singular, the verb must
also be singular.
If the subject is plural, the verb must
be plural. Let me give you an
example.”

She turns to the board and writes:

* The dog barks The students nod, their eyes fixed on the board.
* The dogs bark One student, Learner 2: raises her hand.

“Notice here, ‘dog’ is singular, so we Learner 2:

use ‘barks.’ But when we have Does this rule apply to all sentences, Teacher
‘dogs,’ which is plural, we use ‘bark.’ Nathaniel?
The verb changes to match the
subject.

Do you see the difference?”

Great question, Learner 2 Most of

the time, yes, but there are a few
tricky cases. Let’s discuss one of * Everyone is excited
them.”

She writes another example on the

board:

“Now, ‘everyone’ might seem like it’s

talking about a group, but it’s
actually singular. Words like
‘everyone,’ ‘each,’ and ‘nobody’ are Yes teacher!!
singular and take singular verbs.

Does that make sense?”

“Let’s practice! I’ll give you

sentences, and you tell me if they’re
correct or not.”
1. The cat run across the street.
2. My friends is coming to the party. Several hands raised up, and Teacher Nathaniel

everyday.

“Who can correct the first

sentence?”

3. Guided Practice
Objective: Students will practice
identifying and applying the correct
subject-verb agreement through
collaborative exercises.

Materials Needed:
•Board and Chalk

Activity Steps:
1. Teacher Nathaniel Example (5
minutes):
Teacher Nathaniel writes the
following sentence on the board: Learners: “The boy.”
• The boy ____ (run/runs) to school
every morning “Singular.”

“Look at this sentence. What is the

subject?”
“Correct! Is the subject singular or
plural?”

“Good! Since the subject is singular,

we use the singular verb. So, the
correct answer is ‘runs.’ Let’s
complete the sentence together:
‘The boy runs to school every
morning.’ Great job!”

C. Closing Activities

1. Generalization
Learner 1. " The verb in a sentence must always

agree with its subject in number. A singular

subject takes a singular verb, and a plural subject

takes a plural verb.”
Who can tell me the key rule we must
always remember when forming
sentences?

Exactly! We also learned that there are

some tricky cases, like when the
subject is a collective noun, or when
words like ‘everyone’ and ‘each’ are
used. Always identify the subject first to
ensure the verb matches correctly.

2. Application
Okay class let's have an group activity.
Divide the class into pairs or small
groups. Provide each group with
sentences that have blanks for the
verb.

Example sentences:
1. The dogs ____ (bark/barks) loudly.
2. Maria ____ (enjoy/enjoys) reading
books.
3. Each of the students ____ (is/are)
excited for the field trip.
4. My parents ____ (love/loves)
cooking together.
5. The teacher and her assistant ____
(help/helps) the students.

Instructions:
Work together to identify the subject in
each sentence.
Decide whether the subject is singular
or plural.

Choose the correct verb to complete

the sentence.

Class Discussion:
After the group activity, discuss the answers as a Group 1: “We chose ‘is’ because ‘each’ is singular
class. Call on groups to share their answers and
explain their reasoning.

Example Discussion:
Teacher Nathaniel: “Group 1, what’s
your answer for sentence 3?”

Teacher Nathaniel: “Excellent!

Remember, words like ‘each’ and
‘everyone’ always take singular verbs.”
