areas and sites and observe OHS activities and discuss OHS expectations with site employeesand at the same
time conducting an inspection of unsafe conditions.

What should you discuss on the safety inspection/walkthroughs?
Discussion should be open and honest. You are there to listen, discuss the issues and gain insight into OHS
aspects of implementation of the OHS program, including conversations with 4-8 people.
* Talk to the employees about the OHS program and how it is implemented on site.
* Find out about any OHS issues that are common, for example tasks been performed (JSP), hazards etc.
Ask how site personnel think OHS could be better improved , particular to the site supervision and
*
management activities.
* Find out what is working well and why.
* Record all relevant OHS information that emerges during the site safety walkthrough.

Share the learning’s of your safety inspection/walkthrough with the other leaders, managers and contractors.
* There may be department and site specific issues that need addressing.
* Thank all involved in providing access and facilitating the site inspection/walkthrough.
It is important to involve supervision and contractors in the site area safety inspection and walkthrough and record
all observations made.
Follow-actionsforOHS issues should be specified and recorded for implementation by appropriate persons
involved with OHS in the location or site.
Remember that identifying and reporting is as important as reporting on things that must be improved.

2. If any other unsafe act or unsafe condition is observed durning the safety inspection/ walkthrough that has the
potential to cause an injury to personel or can result in a major loss to assests, the team leader must
immediately safely stop the acivity and request the immediate supervisor or managers to address and rectify
the potenial high risk observation before the activity is allowed to proceed. Do not walk past it.
