§ 2 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

<General Precautions>
• Servicing should be performed by NIDEK service persons or other qualified personnel.
• Observe the procedures indicated in this manual to perform service work. Failure to do
so may cause unexpected accident or malfunction.
• When performing maintenance work, turn off the power switch, and disconnect the power
cord from the wall outlet unless the power needs to be on.

<Safety Precautions>
• Take antistatic precautions prior to service work.
• In case of system malfunction, check the symptom, and turn off the power switch.
• Never drop parts or screws inside the system, nor bump it against surrounding objects.
• Prepare storage cases so as not to lose the removed screws or parts.
• Loosen or tighten the screws with proper tools.
• After loosening the screws fastened by a threadlocking adhesive, be sure to reapply the
threadlocking adhesive to the screws when retightening them.
• After replacing parts, make sure that they are fastened securely before turning on the
power.
• Should you observe strange odors or smoke being issued from the system, immediately
turn off the power switch, disconnect the power cord from the outlet, and investigate the
cause. If the system is powered in abnormal conditions, fire, electric shock, or total loss
of the system may result.
• Never perform maintenance work with wet hands. Electric shock or failure of the system
may result.
• See Wiring Diagram and Connecting Cable for checking cable breaks as described in
“TROUBLESHOOTING”. In addition, confirm the following:
(1) Connectors are connected and crimped securely.
(2) No contact failure occurs after re-connection of connectors.
(3) Cables are soldered properly.
Do not yank the cables with excessive force. Doing so could cause cable breakage.

<Adjustment Precautions>
• Perform adjustment on a vibration-free, stable and level surface.
A slanted floor or place subject to vibration will obstruct accurate adjustment.
• Never use adjustment jigs for purposes other than intended.
• If tools necessary for adjustment are not available, return the system without performing
adjustment.

* For the cable to the P401 side, attach the ferrite core (E04SR200932, SEIWA) to the connector side
relative to the shielded area which is folded back.
* For the cable to the P104 side, attach the ferrite cores (TFC-23-11-14, KITAGAWA) (E04SR200932, SEIWA),
in that order, to the connector side relative to the shielded area which is folded back.

* For the cable to the P701 side, strip off the outer sheath by 100 mm from the connector.
For the cable to the P103 side, strip off the outer sheath by 50 mm from the connector
and fold back the shield by 30 mm to cover the outer sheath. Cut off any excess of the shield.
For the shielded area of the cable, leave approx.15 mm from the connector and cover the rest
with a heat-shrinkable tube.
