Course Code: MEIR12 Date of Assignment: 30.09.2024
Course Name: Engineering Graphics Last date of Assignment: 07.10.2024
Class: First Year ‘B’ Section Weightage: 10%

Assignment 1– Projection of Straight Lines

1. Two pegs fixed on a wall are 4.5 meters apart. The distance between the pegs measured parallel
to the floor is 3.6 meters. If one peg is 1.5 meters above the floor, find the height of the second
peg and the inclination of the line joining the two pegs, with the floor.
2. A top view of a 75 mm long line AB measures 65 mm, while its front view is 50 mm long. One
end A is in the H.P. and 12 mm in front of the V.P. Draw the projections of AB and determine its
inclination with the H.P. and the V.P.
3. A-line AB, 90 mm long, is inclined at 300 to the H.P. Its end A is 12 mm above the H.P. and 20
mm in front of the V.P. Its front view measures 65 mm. Draw the top view of AB and determine
its inclination with the V.P.
4. A-line AB of 70 mm long, has its end A at 10 mm above H.P and 15 mm in front of V.P. Its front
view and top view measure 50 mm and 60 mm respectively. Draw the projections of the line and
determine its inclinations with H.P. and V.P.
5. The top view of a straight-line PQ is 70 mm making an angle of 60° with XY line. The end Q is 10
mm in front of the VP and 30 mm above the HP. The difference between the distances of p and q
above the HP is 45 mm. Draw the projections. Find its true length and true inclinations with HP
and VP.
6. A-line PQ 85 mm long has its end P 10 mm above the HP and 15 mm in front of the VP. The top
and front views of a line PQ are 75 mm and 80 mm respectively. Draw its projections and
determine the true and apparent inclinations of the line.
7. The top view of a line 75 mm long measures 50 mm. The end P is 30 mm in front of VP and 15
mm above HP. The end q is 15 mm in front of VP and above HP. Draw the projections of the line
and find its true inclinations with HP and VP.
8. A-Line AB 50 mm long, has its end A in both the H.P. and the V.P. It is inclined at 30o to the H.P.
and at 45o to the V.P. Draw its projections.
9. A-line PQ 75 mm long, has its end P in the V.P. and the end Q in the H.P. The line is inclined at
30° to the H.P. and at 60° to the V.P. Draw its projections.
10. A point A is 50 mm below the H.P. and 12 mm behind the V.P. A point B is 10 mm above the H.P.
and 25 mm in front of the V.P. The distance between the projectors of A and B is 40 mm. Determine
the traces of the line joining A and B.
11. The projectors of the ends of line AB are 50 mm apart. The end A is 20 mm above the H.P. and
30 mm in front of the V.P. The end B is 70 mm below the H.P. and 40 mm behind the V.P.
Determine the true length and traces of AB, and its inclinations with the two planes.
12. A-line AB, 90 mm long, is inclined at 45° to the H.P. and its top view makes an angle of 60° with
the V.P. The end A is in the H.P. and 12 mm in front of the V.P. Draw its front view and find its
true inclination with the V.P.
13. A-line AB, inclined at 40° to the V.P., has its ends 50 mm and 20 mm above the H.P. The length
of its front view is 65 mm and its V.T. is 10 mm above the H.P. Determine the true length of AB,
its inclination with the H.P. and its H. T.
14. A tripod stand rests on the floor. One of its legs is 150 mm long and makes an angle of 70° with
the floor. The other two legs are 7 63 mm and 175 mm long respectively. The upper ends of the
legs are attached to the corners of a horizontal equilateral triangular frame of 50 mm side, one
side of which is parallel to the V.P. In the top view, the legs appear as lines 120° apar (which if
produced, would meet in a point. Draw the projections of the tripod and determine the angle that
each of the other two legs makes with the floor. Assume the thickness of the frame and the legs
is equal to that of the line.
15. The straight-line AB is inclined at 30° to H.P., while its top view is at 45o to a line XY. End A is 20
mm in front of the V.P., and it is below the H.P. The other end B is 75 mm behind the V.P. and is
above the H.P. Draw the projections of the line when its V.T. is 40 mm below. Find the true length
of the portion of the straight line that is in the second quadrant and locate its H.T.
