SECTION – A
Questions 1 to 6 carry 1 mark each.

1. The compound interest on ₹ 50,000 at 4% per annum for 2 years compounded annually is
(a) ₹ 4,000 (b) ₹ 4,080 (c) ₹ 4,280 (d) ₹ 4,050
Ans: (b) ₹ 4,080

2. The marked price of an article is ₹ 60 and it is sold at ₹ 45, then the discount rate will be.
(a) 25% (b) 35% (c) 15% (d) none of these
Ans. (a) 25%

3. The cost of a ticket for the show is ₹ 250. Ayush got a 20% discount on buying a ticket through online
booking. How many rupees did Ayush pay for the ticket?
(a) ₹ 25 (b) ₹ 50 (c) ₹ 200 (d) ₹ 300
Ans. (c) ₹ 200
Discount on ticket = 20% of ₹ 250 = ₹ 50
Amount paid by Ayush = 250 – 50 = ₹ 200

4. Cost of TV is ₹ 3350 Sales tax of 10% is charged on it. Find the bill amount.
(a) ₹ 3500 (b) ₹ 3725 (c) ₹ 3850 (d) ₹ 3685
Ans. (d) ₹ 3685
Cost of TV = ₹ 3350

SECTION – B
Questions 7 to 9 carry 2 marks each.
7. The list price of a music system is ₹ 16,925. If GST is charged at the rate of 12%, calculate the
amount to be paid by the customer for purchasing it.
Ans. List price of the music system = ₹ 16,925
GST = 12% of ₹ 16925
= 12/100 × ₹ 16925 = ₹ 2031
Hence, total amount to be paid by customer
= List Price + GST = ₹ 16925 + ₹ 2031 = ₹ 18,956.

8. Anuj play 55 matches of badminton. Out of which he won 35 matches. Find the ratio of
winning matches to lost matches?
Ans. Total number of matches = 55
Number of won matches = 35
Number of matches lost = 55 – 35 = 20
Ratio of winning to lost = 35 : 20
Hence ratio = 7 : 4

9. Ayesha announced a festival discount of 25% on all the items in her mobile phone shop.
Ramandeep bought a mobile phone for himself. He got a discount of ₹ 1,960. What was the
marked price of the mobile phone ?
Ans. Discount amount = ₹ 1960 and discount rate = 25%
When discount ₹ 25, then the marked price = ₹ 100
On discount ₹ 1, then the marked price = ₹ 100/25
On discount ₹ 1960, then the marked price
= 100/25 × 1960
= ₹ 7840

SECTION – C
Questions 10 to 13 carry 3 marks each.
10. A shirt was sold for ₹ 598.40 after allowing a discount of 12% on its marked price. Determine
the marked price of the shirt.
Ans. Let MP of the shirt be ₹ x.
12 3x
Discount = 12% of x = x 
100 25
3x 25 x  3 x 22 x
∴ SP = x   
25 25 25
22 x
According to the question,  598.40

11. A shopkeeper was selling all his items at 25% discount. During the off season, he offered 30%
discount over and above the existing discount. If Pragya bought a skirt which was marked for ₹
1,200, how much did she pay for it?
Ans. M.P of skirt = ₹ 1200
Discount % = 25%
Discount = 25/100 × 1200 = ₹ 300
C.P of skirt = ₹ (1200 – 300) = ₹ 900
Another 30% discount on C.P = 30/100 × 900 = ₹ 270
Final amount paid = ₹ (900 – 270) = ₹ 630

12. A car costing ₹ 3,00,000 depreciates each year by 10% of its value at the beginning of the year.
Find its value at the end of 3 years.
Ans. Here, P = ₹ 3,00,000, R = 10%, n = 3 years,
So, the value of the car at the end of 3 years

13. The population of a village is 25,000. It increases at the rate of 2% every year. Then, find the
population at the end of two years
Ans.

∴ Increase in population = 26,010 – 25,000 = 1010.

SECTION – D
Questions 14 to 16 carry 4 marks each.

14. Hamid goes to a shop to buy a grinder costing ₹ 2700. The rate of the VAT is 8%. He tells the
shopkeeper to allow a discount on the price of the grinder to such an extent that he pays ₹ 2700
inclusive of VAT. Find the discount on the price of the grinder.
Ans. Let the reduced price of the grinder after discount be ₹ x.
8x 2 x
VAT = 8% of ₹ x = ₹ 
100 25

Prepared by: M. S. KumarSwamy, TGT(Maths) Page - 3 -

 2 x  25 x  2 x 27 x
∴ SP = ₹  x   
 25  25 25
27 x
It is given that,  2700
25
2700  25
x  2500
27
Thus, the reduced price of the grinder = ₹ 2500
Therefore, discount allowed in the price of the grinder = ₹ 2700 – ₹ 2500 = ₹ 200.

15. The population of a village increased to 44100 in 2003 at a rate of 5 % per annum. What was
the population in 2001?
Ans. Here, population in 2003 = 44100
Rate of growth of population (R) = 5% per annum.
Number of years (n) = 2
Let P be the population in 2001.
n
 R 
Then, population after n years = P 1  
 100 
2
 5 
i.e., population after 2 years = P 1  
 100 
2
 21  441
 44100  P    44100  P 
 20  400
⇒ P = 40000
Thus, the population of the village in 2001 was 40,000.

16. Given the principal = Rs 40,000, rate of interest = 8% p.a. compounded annually. Find
(a) Interest if period is one year.
(b) Principal for 2nd year.
(c) Interest for 2nd year.
(d) Amount if period is 2 years.
Ans. (a) Interest = P × R × T / 100
= Rs. 40000 × 8 × 1 / 100
= Rs. 3200
(b) Principal for 2nd year = P + S.I
= 40000 + 3200
= Rs. 43200
(c) Interest for 2nd year =
= Rs. 43200 × 8 × 1 / 100
= Rs. 3456
(d) Amount after 2yrs = Rs. (43200 + 3456) = Rs. 46656

SECTION – E (Case Study Based Question)

Question 17 carry 4 mark

17. In a primary school, the parents were asked about the number of hours they spend per day in
helping their children to do homework. There were 90 parents who help for 1/2 hr to 3/2 hr .
The distribution of parents according to the time for which, they said they helped is given in the
adjoining figure, 20% helped for more than 3/2 hr per day. 30% helped for 1 hr to 1 1/2 hr ;
50% did not help at all.

Prepared by: M. S. KumarSwamy, TGT(Maths) Page - 4 -

Using this, answer the following:
(a) How many parents were surveyed? (2)
(b) How many said that did not help? (1)
(c) How many said that they helped for more than 3/2 hours? (1)
Ans: Let us suppose that there are x parents. 90 parents who help for 1/2 hr to 3/2 hr.
They show the percentage is 30%, then according to formula.
Percentage value = The percentage of whole value
⇒ 90 = 30% of x
⇒ 90 = 30x/100
⇒ x = 900/3 = 300
There are 300 parents :
20% helped for more than 3/2 hr. per day.
Again, according to condition, Percentage value = Percentage of whole value
= 20% of x
= 20x/100 × 300
Percentage value = 60 parents who helped their children more than 3/2 hr per day
50% did not help at all.
Again, using formula, Percentage value = Percentage of whole value
= 50% of x
= 50x/100 × 300
Percentage value = 150 parents did not help at all
(a) 20% helped for more than 3/2 hr per day + 30% helped for 1/2 hr to 3/2 hr per day
= The value of 20% + The value of 30% + The value of 50% + 50% did not help
= 60 parents who help their children more than 3/2 hr. + 90 parents who help their children 1/2
hr to 3/2 hr. + 150 parents who did not help
= 300 parents who help their children
(b) The value of 50% parents they said did not help = 150
(c) The value of 20% who said that they help their children more than 3/2 hr = 60 parents
