"The Importance of Choosing the Right Career:
A Call for Scientific Career Counselling"

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” - Confucius

Career counselling is a staple in Indian households, yet despite its prevalence, an

overwhelming 99% of people end up choosing the wrong career paths. Often, we seek
career advice from relatives and cousins who have achieved significant milestones in
their lives. These well-meaning advisors, however, can unintentionally steer us toward
careers that may not be the best fit for us.

Recently, numerous movies and documentaries have highlighted the critical need for
effective career guidance for Indian students. There is a growing awareness that
selecting the right career is one of the most important decisions a student can make,
even before aiming for high academic scores.

With the advent of digital technology and the proliferation of smartphones, content
consumption has become highly diverse. This has led to a rise in extreme individualism,
where everyone is developing unique personalities and thought processes. As a result,
casual career discussions over breakfast or advice from relatives are no longer
sufficient.

To ensure that individuals find careers that truly match their strengths and interests, we
need a more scientific approach to career counseling. This involves analyzing
psychological attributes and mapping out career options that align with an individual's
unique profile.

India, with its young population, needs to pay more attention to career counseling. By
doing so, we can help our youth leverage their strengths, contribute to economic
development, and improve their mental well-being by ensuring they stay happy and
fulfilled at work.

understand that education is just one aspect of a fulfilling and successful
career. Recognizing the need for comprehensive guidance, I have dedicated
myself to assisting individuals in making informed decisions regarding their
career paths.

Driven by my passion for making a positive impact on the lives of students, I

decided to expand my skills and pursue a career in counselling. Through
further education and training, I have acquired a comprehensive knowledge
of psychology, counselling techniques, and therapeutic interventions.

I have a rich experience of more than 15 years in the field of academics. I hold
a Master's degree in Psychology and am UGC-NET qualified in the subject. I
have completed my Master's in Business Administration and taught in a few of
the finest institutes in the country. Counselling students and parents has
always been a part of my job. I have a firm belief that every individual is
UNIQUE and cannot follow the same path to have a successful career.

and 10th grade students at St. Mary's Public School, Bangalore. The students
were exceptionally interactive and eager to learn, which made the experience truly
rewarding.

year students of ST.ANN'S Degree College for Women, Mallapur, Hyderabad. It
was held for 5 days from 15th to 20th July.

Around 53 students have participated in the program, it was an interactive session

on identifying the right career path and preparing for the job interview.
