1. The question paper comprises Six sections-A, B, C, D, E and F. there are 37 questions in the question
paper. All questions are compulsory
2. Sec-A- From question 1 to 20 are MCQs of 1 mark each.
3. Sec- B- From Question 21 to 24 are Very Short Answer Type, carrying 2 marks each.
4. Sec- C – From Question 25 to 29 are Short Answer Type, carrying 3 marks each.
5. Sec- D – From Question 30 to 33 are Long Answer Type, carrying 5 marks each.
6. Sec- E- From Question 34 to 36 are Case Based Questions with three sub questions and are of 4 marks
each.
7. Sec-F- Question no: 37 is map based, carrying marks with two parts, 37 (a) from History (2m) and 37
(b) from Geography (3m)
8. There is no overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been provided in few
questions. Only one of the choices in such questions have to be attempted.
9. In addition to this, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever necessary.
10. Note: CBQ stands for ‘Competency Based Questions’. 50% of weightage allocated for competency -

34. Case Study-I
Read the source given below and answer the question that follows:
Loans from Cooperatives
Besides banks, the other major source of cheap credit in rural areas are the cooperative societies (or
cooperatives). Members of a cooperative pool their resources for cooperation in certain areas.
There are several types of cooperatives possible such as farmer cooperatives, weaver cooperatives,
industrial worker cooperatives, etc. Krishak Cooperative functions in a village not very far away
from Sonpur. It has 2300 farmers as members. It accepts deposits from its members. With these
deposits as collateral, the Cooperative has obtained a large loan from the bank. These funds are
used to provide loans to members. Once these loans are repaid, another round of lending can take
place.
Krishak Cooperative provides loans for the purchase of agricultural implements, loans for
cultivation and agricultural trade, fishery loans, loans for construction of houses and for a variety of
other expenses.

35. Case Study-II


Read the source given below and answer the questions that follow:
Tea cultivation is an example of plantation. It is also an important beverage crop introduced in
India initially by the British. Today, most of the tea plantations are owned by Indians. The tea plant
grows well in tropical and sub-tropical climates endowed with deep and fertile well-drained soil,
rich in humus and organic matter. Tea bushes require warm and moist frost-free climate all
throughout the year. Frequent showers evenly disturbed over the year ensure continuous growth of
tender leaves. Tea is a labour-intensive industry. It requires abundant, cheap and skilled labour. Tea
is processed within the tea garden to restore its freshness. Major tea producing states are Assam,
Hills of Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Apart from these,
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura are also tea-producing
states in the country. In 2015, India was the second largest producer of tea after China.

36. Case Study-III


Read the source given below and answer the questions that follow:
The production of manuscripts could not satisfy the ever-increasing demand for books. Copying
was an expensive, laborious and time-consuming business. Manuscripts were fragile, awkward to
handle, and could not be carried around or read easily. Their circulation therefore, remained
limited. With the growing demand for books, woodblock printing gradually became more and more
popular. By the fifteenth century, woodblocks were being widely used in Europe to print textiles,
playing cards and religious pictures with simple, brief texts. There was a great need for even
quicker and cheaper production of texts. This could only be with the invention of new print
technology. The breakthrough occurred in Strasbourg, Germany, where Johann Gutenberg
developed the first-known printing press in the 1430’s.
